Caitlyn Jenner Receives Awards, Support, And More Denial From Kris Jenner

It’s only been 24 hours since news broke that the person formerly known as Bruce Jenner announced to the world that she is now Caitlyn. Aside from the amusement and shock that Caitlyn pointedly avoided taking the typical Kardashian-Jenner “K”, the response to Caitlyn’s Vanity Fair magazine cover reveal has been generally positive. While fans rushed to share their support via social media, the question was always when and how his daughters and step daughters would react. Well the Kardashian and Jenner girls have reacted, and in fitting fashion, they did so through social media.

Freedom! Stunning. #Caitlyn

The flood of support continued on Tuesday, when ESPN announced Caitlyn Jenner as the recipient of the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at The 2015 ESPYS Presented by Capital One. Executive producer Maura Madnt spoke about Jenner’s award.

“Bruce has received many accolades over the years for being one of the greatest Olympians of our time but The ESPYS are honored to celebrate Bruce becoming Caitlyn. She has shown the courage to embrace a truth that had been hidden for years, and to embark on a journey that may not only give comfort to those facing similar circumstances, but can also help to educate people on the challenges that the transgender community faces.”

Caitlyn Jenner joked about the news on her Twitter account @Caitlyn_Jenner.

Of course, not every reaction to Caitlyn Jenner has been positive. Uproxx noted that a 2009 episode of Family Guy joked that Bruce Jenner (as Caitlyn was known then) was an elegant Dutch woman who gave birth to Brody Jenner. Kris Jenner maintains that she never knew about Caitlyn, because Bruce Jenner deliberately left her in the dark. Kris Jenner’s version of events, which are covered in the Vanity Fair interview with Caitlyn Jenner, have come under fire in recent weeks due to the revelation that she knew Bruce Jenner had taken hormones in the 1980s, before they married. The June issue of Vanity Fair hits newsstands June 9. The 2015 ESPYS Presented by Capital One airs Wednesday, July 15, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
