Lauren Conrad’s Skinny Ban Fights Back At Body Shaming

Lauren Conrad has skinny on a list of words that will no longer appear on her website or personal blog. The former reality star is taking on body shaming in a big way, according to People Magazine.

Conrad revealed on her website blog on Monday that skinny and other words like “thin” and “slim” have been banned from her site. She will instead use other words like “tone” and “healthy.”

Conrad has become involved in fashion since she left The Hills after five seasons in 2010. She had her start in reality television in Laguna Beach on MTV. However, she has become quite the fashion and lifestyle guru. She started two fashion labels since the end of her time on television, and she is not a fan of body shaming or fat shaming in any way.

She decided to take on body shaming head on with her post on Monday. She wants to help people get in shape without shaming them for it in any way.

“When we’ve talked about getting in shape in the past, words like “skinny,” “slim,” and “thin” have often come up. Starting this month, we’ll be banning any body shaming terms from the site, and replacing them with words like “fit” “toned,” and “healthy.” We try do to this for the most part anyway, but now we’re making it official! The word skinny will now be reserved for skinny jeans. My editorial team and I had a long talk about it, and we want to make sure that the focus is on being fit as opposed to a number on the scale. Every body is created differently—and healthy bodies come in all shapes and sizes.”

Fashion is important to her, but she also feels it is just as important to be happy and healthy. In a recent interview with the Lux Report, she shared her own thoughts on fashion, and being comfortable is important to her.

“Don’t wear something that you are terribly uncomfortable in,” Lauren advised. “I spent half my 20s in shows that made my feet numb and cocktail dressed I could barely breathe in. Every once in a while, I will still sacrifice comfort for fashion, but at the end of the day, what is the point of looking good if you feel miserable?”

She shared that on a typical day she will wear skinny jeans and a button down. If she is at home working, she will skip make-up entirely and focus on comfort by just throwing her hair in a low bun.

Lauren Conrad does have a lot to be happy this year. She married William Tell in September 2014. The couple met on Valentine’s Day 2012 after mutual friends set them up on a blind date. According to Hello Magazine, the former Hills star shared some behind-the-scenes photos from her wedding day on Instagram last week.

Conrad revealed to People Magazine that the couple is in not ready to have kids. Right now, they are enjoying their first year of marriage, and they are in “no rush” to add kids into the mix. She spoke about their marriage briefly the magazine. She has called them “good partners.”

“I haven’t gotten any big surprises yet. It’s been pretty wonderful so far, so hopefully there’s no big ones.”

Several Hollywood stars are taking on the issue of fat shaming in recent weeks. Some celebrities are being vocal and fighting back against those that comment on their weight. According to a previous Inquisitr report, Melissa McCarthy tackled the issue face to face when she met a member of the press who criticized her weight in an article. She shared her story on a recent talk show appearance.

“He said, basically I’m only a good actress when I look attractive and that my husband shouldn’t be allowed to direct me because he let me be to look hideous in this movie. And it was a lot of things and just like kind of how dare women not look beautiful, perfect and attractive in a movie and he came up to me and I was surprised that the talked to me because he was there for a different movie and I said, ya know would you do that to a man? I said, just know that every time you write stuff every young girl in this country reads that and they just get a little bit chipped away. I just think that we tear down women in this country for all these superficial reasons and women are so great and strong and I think he really heard that.”

Lauren Conrad’s decision to ban fat shaming words like skinny from her website is receiving praise on social media.
