To say that Courteney Cox and David Arquette have had a strange, tumultuous relationship would not quite be doing them justice. Their on-again, off-again relationship has seen everything from postpartum depression to accusations of infidelity. They were separated for three years before the divorce was finalized in 2013. However, the newest rumor about the former Scream couple may be the strangest yet.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, an insider told Closer Magazine that Courteney Cox wanted her ex-husband to walk her down the isle when she marries Snow Patrol’s John McDaid later this year. The insider went on to tell Cox’s reasoning behind such a strange request.
“Her father passed away in 2001 and she’s been telling friends it feels natural for David to ‘give her away’ given how close they are and how happy they’ve been for each other to move on.”
This seems like it would put the Northern Ireland Rocker McDaid in an odd situation, but according to the report expanded upon by RTE, he seems to be okay with it, now.
“Johnny found their friendship odd at first, but Courteney gave him a list of heartfelt reasons why she wanted him to walk her down the aisle, and now he has a deeper understanding of their relationship.”
As sweet as this rumor might sound, Gossip Cop has come forward and stated that none of it is true. The site claims it has exclusively received word from one of the reps of Courteney Cox that debunks the claim. However, it should be noted that the only evidence that the site offers up is their word. Until someone from Cox, McDaid, or Arquette’s camp comes forward to specifically refute the Closer Magazine interview, it will leave the possibility open.
David Arquette was married in April of this year to Entertainment Tonight correspondent Christina McLarty almost one year after they had their son, Charlie West. It is not been announce if Cox attended, but Coco, Courtney and David’s daughter, was in attendance.
Courtney Cox and David Arquette have always maintained they have a decent relationship since the divorce. As a matter of fact, Cox will be making her directorial debut with the movie Just Before I Go. David Arquette is in the film, and Courtney was very candid about enjoying directing her ex.
“I love David’s performance in the movie. It’s so nice to direct someone you know so well because you know their go-tos and you know what they fall back on… I really liked working with him. David was really open — all the actors were — they really put a lot of trust in me, which was great.”
Directing an ex in a film is one thing, but having them “give you away” is something completely different. Despite those saying McDaid is okay with their friendship, he would have to be some sort of Superman to let that happen.
