Adam Levine Slams ‘Parental Advisory’ Label With Profound Statement

Singer Adam Levine made a profound statement about censorship in the music industry on Monday with a single Instagram post.

The Maroon 5 frontman posted a picture of the standard “Parental Advisory” label which is placed on album covers to indicate explicit content.

Adam LevineWithin the caption of the photo, Levine apparently did not bite his tongue when voicing his strong beliefs on why this particular label is absolutely meaningless.

“I know it may be passé or very ’90s’ to still care about how stupid this label is. But it happened during my youth so [I’m] passionate about it. Adhering to a meaningless label won’t make me a good parent. Asking my kid about what they’re listening to will.”

The 36-year-old actor and The Voice coach continued his statement by shifting the focus towards what he believes should receive these types of warning labels instead — unhealthy foods.

“I also often wonder, why aren’t there labels like this on McDonald’s bags? If I have a happy, healthy kid who does well in school, doesn’t eat Big Macs every day, and listens to Doggystyle on repeat, I’ll consider myself a successful father.”

The “Parental Advisory” label was first introduced by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) thirty years ago in 1985. Nearly five years later, the black-and-white label placed in the bottom right-hand corner of album covers with explicit content was introduced to the music industry in 1990 and has been in place ever since.

Thousands of album and single covers have been stamped with the “Parental Advisory” labels in the 25 years that have passed since its introduction — including two of Maroon 5’s studio albums.

Adam Levine apparently is using the “F**k censorship” tagline as a theme for his recent Instagram posts. With his “Parental Advisory” slam on Monday, Levine used the phrase as a hashtag.

However, he took it a little farther with another Instagram picture posted on Saturday. With the two words were printed in white, capital letters with a black-and-white picture of Adam Levine’s naked backside in the background.

The post was actually used to promote the Saturday release of Maroon 5’s new video, “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt (Like a Motherf**ker).”

The picture of Adam Levine showing off his backside after a shower was actually a snapshot of a framed scene from the explicit music video, which was reportedly filmed with a single camera in a single take.
