‘Rise Of The Tomb Raider’ Gets Pre-E3 Trailer And Box Art Reveal

The E3 2015 season is upon us, as a new trailer for Rise of the Tomb Raider was released Monday. We are just two weeks from Microsoft’s E3 presentation and the Xbox One exclusive is given an all new spotlight.

The setup for Rise of the Tomb Raider is that Lara Croft is still very much in the growing stages of becoming an adventurer. Yes, she is much more seasoned than at the beginning of 2013 Tomb Raider reboot, but she still has more growing to do.

This theme is touched on in the accompanying announcement from the Xbox Wire. “Today’s new Rise of the Tomb Raider trailer offers a peek at protagonist Lara Croft’s newest adventure through treacherous and remote wilderness, as she embraces her inevitable destiny to become the ultimate Tomb Raider,” it reads. “The trailer showcases the spirit of adventure and discovery that drives Lara in this next chapter of her journey.”

Indeed, the trailer includes nods to adventurers such as Amelia Earhart and others who risked death for fame and the desire to discover. It then cuts to Lara, venturing to make it to the top of a mountain. The ascent up an ice flow turns particularly harrowing, but she saves herself with her now trademark climbing axe.

This leads Lara to the entrance of a cave, where she strikes a pose with the pick and flare. And thus, the image that Square Enix and Microsoft are going for with the box art for Rise of the Tomb Raider is born.

Expect much more from Rise of the Tomb Raider during Microsoft’s E3 press briefing on June 15 at 12:30 p.m. ET / 9:30 a.m. PT. Lara’s latest adventure is an Xbox One exclusive for now, so it is bound to receive plenty of love and attention on stage as part of the build up to its release this holiday season.

Rise of the Tomb Raider (Xbox One)

What we do know of the game so far is that Lara has become obsessed with finding the truth behind myths around the world. Rise of the Tomb Raider takes her to the ancient Siberian city of Kitezh, built by the Grand Prince of Vladmir in the 13th century. It’s a race against the Trinity organization to discover a legend of the secret to immortality.

The gameplay will pick up some new tricks, as well. A Game Informer preview revealed new stealth and sneak attack combat options, plus more options to craft different kinds of bows depending on what material is scavenged.
