Will Patrick Dempsey Return To Television For Fall 2015?

Fans of Patrick Dempsey are still recovering from the death of his character on Grey’s Anatomy. Fans of the series loved Derek Shepherd since day one. Many fans watched and loved the relationship of Meredith and Derek over the last decade.

When Derek Shepherd died during an episode that aired last month, Grey’s Anatomy fans were shocked and outraged by it. Some even attacked Shonda Rhimes on social media. However, she does not really let those critics bother her, according to a previous Inquisitr report.

Is Patrick Dempsey leaving television behind? Not according to him. He made it clear in a recent People interview, via Fashion & Style, that he was not retiring from acting to focus on his racing career.

“I’m not retiring from acting. I’m getting ready to go to Le Mans in about a week’s time. I just love it. It’s really stimulating both physically and mentally.”

However, previous interviews by the actor did mention that he wanted to focus on his racing for the rest of the year. It is possible that he could pick up a new television series for the upcoming fall 2015 season.

Cinema Blend shared their own thoughts on Dempsey’s potential return to television.

“Networks have set their schedules for the fall TV season, but there are still plenty of shows that Dempsey could potentially sign on for in the cable or network realm. In addition, even if he doesn’t land on television by the fall, new TV projects are in development all the time. Dempsey just theoretically needs to find the right project to reboot his career, and that could come on network television, cable television or even a streaming service, like Netflix, which is really looking to beef up its original programming right now.”

A network source also spoke to Entertainment Weekly about Dempsey returning to television later this year, and it could happen. The source said it was “not too late at all.”

However, Patrick Dempsey could see one major problem with picking up a new series: his loyal fans. He is now known as Dr. Derek Shepherd. He had a career before Grey’s Anatomy, but it was the series that made him a household name.

Will his fans accept him on a new series as a new character? It is hard to tell. Derek Shepherd was a huge part of what made Grey’s Anatomy the popular drama it is.

There have been many actors who have come and gone on the series. Jeffrey Dean Morgan starred on the series during Season 2, and his time on the series helped launch his career. He spoke about Dempsey’s exit when promoting one of his new projects with Huffington Post Live.

“I guess it’s run its course for some of those people [who] have been there for 10 years, and at a certain point you don’t want to do that character anymore and it’s time for new challenges. And I get it. I get [Dempsey] being ready to say goodbye and I get the show being ready to move forward and introduce some new storylines. Look, 10 years is a long time. I don’t think I could last in anything for 10 years doing a character.”

Will Dempsey’s fans allow him to take on those new challenges? What do you think?
