Stephen Curry Vs. Lebron James: ‘We’ve Got To Bring Our A-Game’

Stephen Curry may be the league’s reigning MVP. But if you ask anyone who the best player in the league is, the answer is unanimous: Lebron James.

So when the Golden State Warriors face off against the Cleveland Cavaliers next week, Curry knows it’s all about shutting down number 23.

“Yeah, he’s been here plenty of times before, five straight Finals appearances, I think, so we’ve got to bring our A-game if we’re going to beat a great team and a great player like that four times,” Curry said after their Game 5 win over the Rockets, as reported by the Washington Post. “We’re excited about the challenge. He had to win his first one at some point, and nobody on our team has experienced that, so we’re going to be fighting like crazy every night. We’ve got home-court advantage that we need to capitalize on, and it’s going to be a battle and it’s going to be fun.”

A battle indeed. MVPs have gone 22-8 in the NBA Finals, meaning that Steph and the Warriors have a good chance to defeat King James when they meet Thursday, June 4. They were also the league’s best team, posting an impressive 67-13 record during the regular season.

But all of that means little when taking on arguably the best player of his generation in Lebron. Five straight NBA Finals, as pointed out by Curry following the Warriors series-clinching win, speaks for itself. And if you want to throw around statistics, Bleacher Report points out a few that may have Golden State fans a bit worried once game time rolls around.

“Even though Curry won this year’s MVP award, James had an equally dominant statistical season,” the article details. “James also has the edge in career head-to-head matchups with Curry, amassing a 5-2 record.”

Steph Curry could also be without one of the key components of his team; guard Klay Thompson suffered a concussion after Game 5, reported the Inquisitr. According to ESPN, Mychal Thompson, Klay’s father and Laker great himself, said that his son was “woozy” when he drove Klay home, but after he vomited, “he was feeling a lot better.”

Thomspon added after that “hopefully this break in the schedule will be a good break for Klay and the Warriors.” When asked if Klay would miss Game 1 on Thursday, he simply replied, “no.”

This is good news for Steph Curry, the reigning MVP of the league, if he hopes to grab another notch from Lebron James’ belt: an NBA Title.
