Mariah Carey Recalls ‘The Worst Experience’ Of Her Life

Mariah Carey is not shy when it comes to talking about her past relationships or her diva antics, so it’s no surprise that the powerhouse singer would not be shy about her experience with American Idol. Mariah Carey was a judge in 2013, during Season 12 of the reality show.

Carey recently had an interview on Australia’s The Kylie and Jackie O Show. She was asked about her experience with Idol and if she would return for the final season.

“Hell no! Absolutely not. That was the worst experience of my life,” she said.

Carey also revealed that her feud with rapper Nicki Minaj was staged for ratings. It sounds like the ladies had to play up their feud for the cameras.

“I’m not going to get into what it was, but let’s just say I don’t think they had any intentions for us to have a good experience doing that show. Pitting two females against each other wasn’t cool.”

If American Idol had the chance to change one thing about itself, it would be to focus more on the contestants, according to Carey. The singer said she didn’t like that the show was more focused on featuring celebrity judges and fake feuds.

“It should have been about the contestants instead of about some nonexistent feud that turned into even more ridiculousness. I would never want to be involved with it again. But everybody else did like it.”

Radio host Kylie Sandilands recalled his time working for Australian Idol. He added that it was often boring working in the studio at times. As previously reported via the Inquisitr, Carey agreed with the radio host and said that American Idol was just as boring. She also went as far as to call the televised music competition fake.

“It’s so boring and so fake, I’m sorry. When I say it’s fake, I mean, I have to make up things to say about everybody. Half the time, the performances are good, you’ll just be like, ‘It was good. Ending it there was really good.'”

This isn’t the first time Mariah Carey has opened up about her experience with American Idol. Back in 2013, when she was a judge, she hinted on another radio show that she hated her experience.

“They gave me a nice dangling monetary moment, and I was just like, ‘Okay. Randy Jackson will be there; I’ve known him forever. He used to play bass for me. Like, this isn’t a big deal. This will be nothing. But it wasn’t that. It was like going to work every day in hell with Satan.”

Carey later retracted her controversial statements. Instead, she said, “Naw, I’m just playing. It didn’t affect me that much.”

The singer couldn’t be too bothered to return to American Idol when she has her #1 to Infinity residency at Caesar’s Place in Las Vegas. Mariah landed a multi-million dollar contract with the hotel chain. Current American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez will also have a residency in Las Vegas, but at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino starting January 20, 2016.
