Clint, JJ Falling In Love: ‘Bachelorette’ Promo Believed To Be A Hoax, Clint And JJ Not Really In Love?

Are Clint and JJ falling in love on The Bachelorette? That’s what the producers would like you to think. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, a new promo for the show leads viewers to believe that two suitors actually fall in love with each other while trying to win the affections of Kaitlyn Bristowe. The promo shows Clint Arlis expressing his love for fellow contestant JJ Lane and saying that he never thought he’d be in love with a man.

“It’s absolutely insane. I never thought that I’d meet somebody like that. Falling in love with a man never crossed my mind,” Clint says.

With Clint and JJ falling in love on the show, many were left wondering when Kaitlyn would find out, or how this would all play it, but it appears as though it’s all a hoax. According to TMZ, Clint and JJ are not gay. They thought the whole bromance thing was funny, so they capitalized on it — and so did ABC.

“Clint and JJ did have a bromance while trying to woo Kaitlyn Bristowe, but ‘nothing gay ever happened’… not even in the shower… as Clint mentions in the promo for next week’s episode. Our sources say both guys are in on the whole ‘Brokeback’ thing and ‘just think it’s funny.’ They even gave producers soundbites to run with. Of course, they’ve also been getting a ton of attention on social media, and they love it. We’re told they ‘think of funny things to write back to people on Twitter.'”

Evidently the show wanted to get a bit of an extra boost, so they aired the promo to get people talking. It worked, of course, but there won’t be an actual side romance happening in the Bachelor mansion as previously speculated.

If Clint and JJ had been falling in love on The Bachelorette, it would have actually been great. And, believe it or not, there are quite a few people who are disappointed that this isn’t happening. As Salon points out, it was kind of low for the network to trick viewers with this promo. Not only has the show said that casting a gay Bachelor or Bachelorette would not be a “good business decision,” some feel as though this whole gay relationship hoax crosses the line.

“[It’s a] slap in the face to viewers who have had to endure the most misogynist and retrograde season of the show yet. The phrase ‘Brokeback Bachelor,’ too, would almost be funny, but given the show’s oppressively hetero sensibilities, it just feels trivializing: Taking a serious work of literature about two men who were tortured by their repressed sexual orientation and secretive love for each other and turning it into a cheap reality show gag.”
