Adults Convince Boys, 13 And 15, To Rob Family Dollar [Video]

After a robbery took place at gunpoint at a Family Dollar in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department released surveillance pictures of the suspects. The police were shocked to discover that two of the robbers were juveniles ages 13 and 15, as reported by WSOC-TV.

Keshawn McCullough, 23, and two other adults convinced the two young boys to commit the robbery. The adults told the teens they would drive them to the Family Dollar store, and McCullough would go inside with them and hold the gun while the teens made the demands. In return, the adults told the two boys they would split the money with them, according to WBTV.

That is exactly how it happened. Once the robbers got what they came for, they all ran out of the store — but not without being caught on camera, which ultimately led to their arrests.

A Family Dollar customer, Tony Watkins, admitted to WSOC-TV, “It saddens me basically to see that our youth is out doing the things they’re doing. That’s crazy. That’s ludicrous.”

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police found McCullough hiding out in a nearby hotel with the 15-year-old boy. Both were arrested.

The police then found the 13-year-old suspect at his school, Robert F. Kennedy Middle School in Southwest Charlotte, and arrested him there at the school.

Lareshia Caves, a resident, told WSOC-TV, “If the kids get arrested, the kids are not going to get as much time as the adults. I want to say that probably has something to do with it.”

WBTV reveals that McCullough was charged with “robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.” He will face a judge on Monday.

The two juveniles were also charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. They are being held at the juvenile detention center.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have identified a fourth suspect, and have a warrant out for his arrest. They are seeking the public’s help in identifying a fifth suspect.

WSOC-TV reports that it is not uncommon for children as young as 13-years-old in Charlotte-Mecklenburg to be arrested and then be back in school wearing an electronic monitoring device.

In fact, the public may be shocked to realize that as many as 807 children between the ages of 6 and 15 were required to wear the electronic monitors in 2014 within the state of North Carolina. This is an option to get these kids on the right path, as opposed to them being in jail.
