Chris Soules — The Bachelor — And Whitney Bischoff Break-Up: Chris Harrison Reacts

The word is out: Chris Soules and Whitney Bischoff have amicably split just two months after their engagement was announced on the season finale of The Bachelor, which was about seven months after they actually became engaged. Earlier this month, they told People magazine that the relationship was good, according to an article in the Inquisitr. They issued a joint statement on Thursday, according to CBS News.

“Whitney Bischoff and Chris Soules have mutually and amicably decided to end their engagement. They part with nothing but respect and admiration for one another and will continue to be supportive friends. They wish to thank everyone who has supported them through this journey.”

There had been some speculation of a break-up before, as the two never moved in together, and Bischoff didn’t move to Soules’ Arlington, Iowa, hometown. But they did have the delay of Soules’ participation on Dancing with the Stars, with Bischoff cheering him on during most of his stint. And Bischoff was seen planting corn in Arlington, with Chris calling her #farmerintraining, according to People. So there were rationalizations regarding why the two didn’t progress in their relationship as people expected them to do.

The news of the break-up saddened romantics and many fans of The Bachelor. After all, who doesn’t love a happy ending? The show’s creator, Mike Fleiss, tweeted that it was a “[s]ad day for us at The Bachelor.”
And Chris Harrison, who spent a lot of time with both people, and who also is sad about the break-up, also had his own take on the split.

He noted that, like any other couple, a break-up is difficult. The host of the Bachelor franchise stated the following, according to Us Weekly.

“I was really sorry to hear this morning that Chris and Whitney had ended their engagement, obviously from our last show The Bachelor….He went on to do Dancing With the Stars and moved back to Iowa and I thought they had given it a go and were going back together but apparently not.”

Harrison was in touch with Soules and texted him to see if there was anything with which he could help them. He noted that he sees them as real people, not just contestants on a television program, and stated the following, according to Us Weekly.

“I will admit I’ve texted Chris on and off today just letting him know I wish them both well and they’re both good friends of mine and if there is anything I can do to help with….And that’s one of the things that’s odd about the show, I know it is television and I know there are silly things that go on, but, to me, they are also real people. They’re just two kids that were hopefully going to get married and they’re not now and that’s sad…they’re still two people going through a breakup, so it’s still tough. I wish them the best.”
