Ronda Rousey: Dad Committed Suicide When She Was Younger, Next Opponent Jokes About It

Ronda Rousey lost her dad to suicide when she was a little girl. While it hasn’t been a big secret since she came onto the MMA scene, it’s not exactly the kind of thing people want to talk about, either.

Unless you’re Bethe Correia (pictured above), Rousey’s next opponent, who finds it somehow oddly amusing.

In a recent interview with Combate, the Brazilian challenger admitted that she wanted to knock Rousey out and “show everyone that she is a lie.”

“She wants to stand up with me, let’s see. I want to humiliate her and show the world she has no MMA. She is focused on movies, books,” Correia said.

It would have been normal trash talk had it ended there, but Bethe had to “go there.”

“Under pressure, she is proving weak. When her mom put pressure on her, she ran away from home. When she lost, it was because of drugs. That’s not a superhero. She is not mentally healthy; she needs to take care of herself. She is winning, so everybody is around her cheering her up, but when she realizes she is not everything that she believes she is, I don’t know what might happen. I hope she does not kill herself later on [laughs].”

While you could forgive this as a slip of the tongue, the history between Bethe and Ronda Rousey would indicate otherwise as indicated by this piece from Yahoo! writer Ryan McKinnell.

Bethe Correia has worked her way through Ronda Rousey’s friends, the so-called “Four Horsewomen,” and she has had Ronda in her sights from the very beginning, never missing an opportunity to talk up the fight and delve in to Ronda’s history.

With how much talk that Bethe has put into the world about her August 1 opponent, it’s unrealistic to assume she didn’t know about the family suicide.

This has many decrying the comments as “tasteless” and “going too far” to sell a fight.

While Ronda Rousey has not responded to the comment at this time, many of her fans — and some who are switching allegiance as a result — have.

Like this self-professed Ronda Rousey hater.

“Another truly classless individual who’s words have only served to make us wish that she is delivered a painful and career ending beating at the hands of Ms.Rousey. I hope she rips her head off, she deserves it.”

Do you think Bethe’s comments about Ronda Rousey crossed a line that shouldn’t have been crossed? Does it change who you want to win this fight?
