Katharine McPhee Making Comeback With Racy New ‘Lick My Lips’ Music Video

Katharine McPhee is aiming for a musical comeback, and the former American Idol star is doing it with a racy video for a song called “Lick My Lips.”

The video is the first in five years for McPhee, who appears in the 1950s style music video in a red bra and tight skirt.

McPhee said her comeback effort in the upcoming album Hysteria is very different from her earlier work.

“There’s so many things and events that have happened in my life in the last 3 or 4 years,” the Smash actress told Billboard. “[With earlier albums] I found it difficult to find inspiration of things I wanted to sing about. I think I was also shy; I wasn’t sure of myself as a writer. I really didn’t feel like I had that much to say, had that much to write about. So I think the overall theme [of this record] is that, yes, there’s been searching, there’s been heartbreak, there’s been longing, I think finally, for the first time, I felt motivated to find stories within my own life to write about.”

For Katharine McPhee, the comeback would mean more than just making music again. The singer and actress has been through a rough year, and the video would be the first bit of good news in quite some time for her.

Earlier this year, Katharine split from husband Nick Cokas after she was seen kissing her married Smash director, Michael Morris. Though it looked bad for Katharine at the time, sources later said that she and Cokas had been separated for months.

Still, some said that McPhee had been in the affair with Morris for “quite a while,” and Katharine was reportedly mortified when it became public.

“She is SO embarrassed she was caught,” a source told Us Weekly. “She should have known better!”

McPhee later confirmed her divorce to People magazine in a statement.

“After six years of marriage, and having been separated for the past year, Katharine McPhee has filed for a dissolution of marriage from Nick Cokas. The two have an amicable relationship and will remain friends. They ask that people respect their privacy during this time.”

Katharine McPhee had some help with the comeback and the “Lick My Lips” music video. She worked with a number of people at writers’ camps, and turned to Isabella “Isa Machine” Summers (of Florence + the Machine), who helped put together the racy video now making headlines for McPhee.
