‘Minecraft’ PC Security Update Now Available, Player Skins Added To Pocket Edition

Following up on a recent security update for the original PC edition of Minecraft, fans of the popular block-building title received another small security patch late last week. Developer Mojang announced on their official site that Minecraft Update 1.8.6 is now available for download and includes additional fixes that that weren’t fully addressed within the previous patch.

“We have released a new version of Minecraft 1.8, called 1.8.6, which is now available for download in your launcher. This release fixes a few reported security issues, in addition to some other bug fixes. This update fixes an issue that was not fixed completely in 1.8.5.”

As the Inquisitr reported in April, a recent Minecraft update deployed a series of changes that strengthened the game’s security so that it was harder for users to manipulate individual Minecraft servers. Specifically, last month’s patch addressed an issue where malevolent players could gain remote access to other gamers’ Minecraft servers.

Continuing to focus on known security issues within Minecraft, Mojang has since released a series of new patches that further strengthen the voxel title’s stability. With Minecraft update 1.8.5, and the subsequent 1.8.6 patch that was released last week, the developer has further improved server validation systems that help make the game more secure and fixes a few additional gameplay problems, as well.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition Skins

Also adding new features to the Minecraft: Pocket Edition, fans can now enjoy player skins while playing the game on mobile devices. Mojang detailed a new update for the Pocket Edition, which allows mobile users to finally change the appearance of their in-game Minecraft avatar. The update was launched with two new skin pack DLC add-ons, which players can purchase for Minecraft: Pocket Edition. Titled “City Folk” and “Town Folk,” the new content adds new skins based on a series of urban and rural character designs.

For those who don’t want to have to pay for their character skins, Mojang revealed that they plan to release free skin pack add-ons in the future. Additionally, giving players the greatest control over their Minecraft character’s appearance, fans can also now create their own player skins to use within the Minecraft: Pocket Edition.

Besides adding skins, the newly launched Pocket Edition update also includes several other features from the full version of Minecraft. Mobile users can now enjoy fishing, boats, squids, bats, and more.
