North Carolina Pastor’s 2-Year-Old Son Dies In Car Wreck, Days Later He Loses Newborn

One North Carolina pastor is facing grief of unimaginable proportions after his 2-year-old son died tragically in a car accident. However, the grief was not over. Just days after the horrifying car crash took the life of his toddler son, his newborn son died from complications following an emergency c-section. Now the Charlotte community is coming together to support Gentry and Hadley Eddings as they begin healing from their tragic losses.

WCNC reports that a pastor from Charlotte, North Carolina, Gentry Eddings, and his wife, Hadley Eddings, lost their 2-year-old son Dobbs in a tragic car accident. The accident took place as the couple were driving home as part of a caravan. A truck hit the vehicle that the family, including pastor Gentry, 2-year-old Dobbs and 8-months-pregnant Hadley were riding in. The accident caused minor injuries to Gentry and sent the boy and the pregnant mother to the hospital. Dobbs died from his injuries and Hadley underwent an emergency c-section to deliver her premature baby.

The newborn was delivered via the c-section and named Reed by the family. However, just two days after birth, the newborn would pass away from complications of a brain bleed. Now, the Eddings family is suffering the loss of their 2-year-old son, now they are also mourning the death of their newborn son Reed. The Forest Hill Church were Gentry worked made the shocking announcement to the congregation on Tuesday morning via an email from the senior pastor David Chadwick.

Chadwich notes that though Gentry is a man of enormous integrity, he will “be challenged” in his faith over the course of the next few “days and weeks.”

“Gentry and Hadley are beloved by us all…He is a man of enormous integrity. They both possess a deep faith. But it will be challenged in the days and weeks to come like no other time.”

A spokesperson for the church notes that the family is just taking the tragedy one day at a time and that Hadley is still recovering from her c-section and injuries.

“They’re going through all the emotions and processing all of this the next minutes, hours and days are going to be exceedingly demanding and difficult for them.”

Friends of the family and the church congregation have setup a GoFundMe page for the family in an attempt to help cover the costs of the family’s medical expenses and children’s funerals. The campaign has a goal of $100,000 and at the time of this posting has already raised over $98,000 towards the family’s expenses.
