‘American Horror Story’: Max Greenfield Checking Into ‘Hotel’

New Girl fan favorite Max Greenfield, who plays Schmidt, has been cast in the upcoming series: American Horror Story: Hotel. American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy announced the casting Monday on Twitter.

“This October, Max Greenfield (like you’ve never seen him) is checking in to the hotel … but not checking out.” Murphy tweeted.

The tweet was quickly retweeted and favorited by thousands.

Greenfield may bring much needed comedic relief to the fright instilled by watching American Horror Story, or he may try to flex his dramatic chops for this role. The tweet hints that Greenfield may be wearing a large amount of makeup in his role.

At this time, it is not clear how many episodes Greenfield will appear in, but by Murphy’s ominous tweet, we can infer there will be an untimely end to his character, most likely in bloody and violent fashion. Also, with his starring role in the Fox comedy, his schedule shouldn’t be able to allow for more than two or three episodes. Greenfield is only able to film scenes for Hotel because he filmed New Girl ahead of schedule, due to star Zooey Deschanel’s pregnancy. Season 5 of New Girl will debut in January.

Max Greenfield is also known for other roles such as Deputy Leo in Veronica Mars, John Fremont in the new film Hello, My Name is Doris, and Nick Pepper in Ugly Betty.

Greenfield joins an already star-studded cast that includes Lady Gaga, Matt Bomer (White Collar), Cheyenne Jackson (Behind the Candelabra), Evan Peters (Kick-A**), Kathy Bates (Misery), Sarah Paulson (12 Years a Slave), Chloe Sevigny (Big Love), Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games), and Angela Bassett (Olympus Has Fallen). FX boss described American Horror Story Season 5 as an “unusually large reinvention” of the series, while Jessica Lange (King Kong) confirmed her exit.

Past American Horror Story cast members we have yet to have heard about are Lily Rabe, Gabourey Sidibe, and Emma Roberts. Roberts will likely not return because she is starring in Murphy’s other series, Scream Queens, set to debut in September.

American Horror Story: Hotel comes from 20th Century Fox and will begin production on the 13-episode season in Los Angeles this summer, with a premiere scheduled for October, but the network has yet to announce a specific release date.
