Sandra Lee: 15 Pounds Dropped In 5 Days Following Double Mastectomy Leaves Sandra Weak
Sandra Lee lost 15 pounds in just five days following a double mastectomy. According to the New York Daily News, the celebrity chef was still in the hospital recovering this weekend after Tuesday’s procedure. She has been very sick in recent days, and hasn’t been feeling up to doing much of anything.
It is unknown if she has since been discharged, but judging by her Twitter account, it appears as though she is still in the hospital today.
“Speaking from her hospital bed, a frail and tired-sounding Lee — the longtime girlfriend of Gov. Cuomo — said she didn’t expect to still be in the hospital on Saturday after having her surgery on Tuesday, but is glad she is because the medicine ‘has thrown me for a loop.'”
It was reported that Gov. Cuomo never left her side.
Sandra Lee is weak from losing 15 pounds, but she’s also having a hard time with everything that is going on right now. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Lee announced her diagnosis a couple of weeks ago. She said that she was completely shocked when her doctor found something on her routine mammogram back in March. When her doctor told her that she had DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ), she couldn’t even formulate words — something that so many patients can relate to.
“I didn’t even cry, I was stunned. You know, and that’s just how fast life turns. It turns on a dime,” she said.

According to People Magazine, Sandra Lee has been leaning on famous friends who have gone through this too.
“Both Rita [Wilson] and Christina Applegate told me I was not gonna be as strong as I thought I was gonna be, and they’re right,” she said. She is encouraging women to go for their annual screenings, as early detection is key.
Her course of treatment moving forward is unclear. She will likely have chemotherapy, and she may undergo reconstructive breast surgery in the coming months (presuming that wasn’t done at the same time as her mastectomy).
