Murder-Suicide: Father Kills Son’s Mother, Then Self, After Boy Goes To Prom

People look forward to attending their prom. After all, it’s usually the highlight of a school year. Unfortunately, after one student left for the prom, his father went to purposely kill his wife — the boy’s mother — then himself in a horrible murder-suicide in Detroit.

Less than two hours after his son left in a limousine to attend his prom, Greg Mabins, 58, shot Kim Landrum Mabins, 45, in the back and killed her. He then eerily called his mother-in-law to inform her of what he did and that he was sorry. Then, he shot himself in the head, according to the Daily Mail.

Kim’s best friend from childhood, Bernadette Cannonier, stated that Kim had just sent her photos of her son getting ready for his prom. She stated the following, according to the Daily Mail.

“I feel a sense of failure, like I let her down. Her husband basically called her and said that he murdered her. And that he was sorry… These next two weeks were the most important two weeks to her. She wanted to see her son graduate. She talked about her son’s prom coming up. And graduation. She just had all smiles on her face.”

Cannonier lives in Florida, but would speak to Kim daily. Kim had been saving money for an extended stay in that state and to give her son a great prom and graduation party.

Mabins died on the way to the hospital. Kim’s close friends say that Mabins had been verbally and physically abusive to her for years, but that things had gotten better in the last couple of months. Another friend of Kim’s, Chaka Johnson, stated the following, according to My Fox Detroit.

“I never thought it would come to this. It was a shock when I got the call. She talked about her son’s prom coming up. And graduation. She just had all smiles on her face. When she left I gave her a hug and said ‘I’ll see you Saturday.'”

In the aftermath of the horrific deaths of two parents as a result of domestic violence, Cannonier stated the following, according to My Fox Detroit.

“There are people who will do anything to help someone get out of that situation. It is nothing to be ashamed of.”

Most people can’t fathom why someone would kill another person. A 36-year-old Kansas City woman faces charges of second-degree murder, as well as four counts of child abuse, after her 2-year-old daughter was found dead in their apartment. But Marie Chishahayo claims that she didn’t hurt the child. Instead, she says her 9-year-old son disciplined her other children, and she allowed him to do so because God, she claimed, told him to do so, according to an article in the Inquisitr.
