Matt Walsh, Popular Blogger, Contests ‘The Duggars Aren’t Hypocrites,’ But ‘Progressives Are’

Matt Walsh is no stranger to controversy.

Love him or hate him, the popular Christian blogger often unapologetically says things that are hard for his opponents to hear, while strengthening the bond that he has with readers of like faith.

That said, it was only a matter of time before he weighed in on the Josh Duggar sex scandal that involved the family’s eldest and four of his sisters plus one underage family friend.

While the Inquisitr has published a number of pieces on the controversy — including this in-depth look at who some of the likely victims were from within the Duggar household — none of the reaction has been quite to the level of what Walsh posted on The Blaze Friday.

In a piece entitled, “The Duggars Aren’t Hypocrites. Progressives Are,” he lays out an argument that the Duggar family did the best they could in a horrible situation.

While not condoning the actions of Josh Duggar, he points an accusatory finger at “progressives,” or “liberals,” who were “giddy” that the Duggar family is finally dealing with a horrible situation within their own ranks. Here’s a bit more from the piece, particularly the attack on how liberals have responded.

“Speaking of hypocrites, I’m going to be very frank with you: I simply don’t believe most progressives actually care that Josh Duggar touched his sisters when he was 14. I don’t believe they are upset about it, or that it offends them, or that they are morally troubled by it. I don’t believe them. I just don’t.”

“I think they’re the real hypocrites.”

“After all, Lena Dunham admitted to inappropriately touching her sister, and she told the story in a jovial way, as if it were an amusing anecdote. Unlike Josh — who repented long ago, and when it was made public owned up to it and apologized again — Lena responded by telling her critics in the right wing conspiracy to ‘back the f**k up, bros.’ While Duggar called his own behavior inexcusable, Dunham described the people upset about her behavior as “disgusting old men.”

“Yet Dunham remains a liberal hero.”

“Just like Bill Clinton, who was credibly accused of rape multiple times. And Harvey Milk, a gay rights icon who got his very own Hollywood biopic, and a creep who regularly sodomized teenage boys. Progressive culture is filled to the brim with rapists, molesters, and deviants, but they never seem worried about any of it until some well known Christian crosses the line.”

“It’s always interesting to watch progressives discover sexual “morality just in time to denounce a right winger, only to shed the pretense as soon as the next liberal pervert comes out of the woodwork.”

“They are moral opportunists. They are the actual hypocrites. This outrage is a charade. A circus. A show. A political ploy.”

“It always is.”

It did not take long for the outrage to start pouring in, with many Duggar opponents sounding off at how Matt Walsh turned the table on them.

This particular comment from Blaze user “mondaymorning” sums up most of the outrage. (There were dozens more at the time of this post.)

“I have to respond to this.”

“Mr. Duggar did not receive true counseling. He was sent to do construction work with a family friend. And the daughters–who absolutely needed and deserved counseling–did not get it. Do you know how I know? Because counselors are required by law to report sexual abuse of a minor. And this was covered up. They did not want it reported. And it wasn’t for over a year.”

“A few things. I was sexually assaulted. I was older, not a child. It was devastating. I did not have to live in the home with the man who did it and pretend everything was okay. I was old enough to have agency and choose whether I went to counseling. I did not have the assaulter return to my home and sit at the breakfast table with me. I did not know that my other sisters had suffered a similarly painful experience. I did not experience the betrayal of my parents bringing the assailant home.”

“Child molesters do not get better. He molested very young girls. According to one of the articles I read, one of the girls was about 5 years old at the time. This is not an act. This is an ILLNESS. It is an urge that does not subside.”

“There is a true danger that the little girl in the home may be subject to abuse by her father because he has urges toward female children.”

“I am a liberal. I have no joy that 4 girls were touched on their private parts by a trusted brother. It makes me want to cry. How awful for them. No joy here. Children being assaulted is not what progressives want to see, ever.”

In Touch Weekly broke the initial story of the Josh Duggar sex scandal earlier last week. While the full details will never be known to anyone outside the family/victims, it involved multiple cases of “inappropriate touching” of girls no older than 12 while Josh himself was 14-years-old.

What do you think about the Matt Walsh assertion that liberals are “giddy” over this and are actually “moral opportunists” and “hypocrites,” who don’t care about sexual assault victims? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
