TNA News: TNA Announcer Goes On Arrogant Rant Regarding Samoa Joe, Still Bitter Over WWE Run?

Former WWE now TNA announcer/commentator Josh Mathews made waves with comments on former TNA star Samoa Joe this past Friday. Since leaving WWE last year, Mathews has taken every chance he has had to take shots at his former employer. It is quite sad that he has gone on such a mission, but he continues to do it even when it doesn’t make sense.

On Friday, Mathews tweeted.

“How did the @WWENXT announcers know who @SamoaJoe was if we are#obscurity in their world? Sick of hypocrisy.”

A fan pointed out to Josh that Samoa Joe had previously developed a big name from his Indy work with places like Ring of Honor before going to TNA. Mathews responded to the fan.

“Please. Joe is a TNA made star.”

When a fan called him bitter over the whole ordeal, Josh Mathews arrogantly responded.

“Bitter??? I don’t know, I’m not! I enjoy large sums of $$$ put into my bank. Life is good, kid!”

Toz Josh Mathews

What is sad to point out is that WWE does the same thing with TNA that it did with WCW. While there were stars WWE was interested in from WCW, WWE never went out telling people that they wanted certain stars. When asked, they’d say they weren’t interested. The same occurs with TNA now. For the most part, WWE is correct in their theory of TNA. It is not obscurity that is present so much as lack of knowledge on them.

TNA lost ratings over the years, despite having a good rise of about a 1.4 in it’s highest period on Spike TV. TNA has never crossed a 2.0 rating. WWE averages a 2.2 for every show they have had on TV in the PG era. WWE RAW alone gets a 3.0 consistently over a three hour period. That said, WWE is clearly the bigger company. The company knows this, so any underneath them they find to be in obscurity. For casual fans, that is as accurate as it gets. Hardcore fans do know TNA and many other promotions however.

Josh Mathews made a good living in WWE over his decade with the company. He was part of WWE Tough Enough, but couldn’t cut it as a wrestler. So, he ended up getting a shot at becoming a commentator and interviewer for WWE. The rest was history as Mathews took the ball WWE gave him and ran with it. Mathews is talented at his job. Sadly, his arrogance went too far. So much so, he ended up deleting a great deal of his tweets.

In fact, here are some of the tweets now deleted from Mathews twitter account courtesy of SEScoops.

Cole Mathews

“I actually get paid in buckets of money. Salt wouldn’t do me much good.”

“Bitter??? I don’t know, I’m not! I enjoy large sums of $$$ put into my bank. Life is good, kid!”

“Thanks, Josh. It’s funny that I’m defending a company I believe in & made a simple point that people will vilify.”

“Easy, never “bashed” made an observation. Last time I checked that was allowed on my personal Twitter.”

“I FU****ING KNOW!!!!! I TALK ABOUT ALL WRESTLING COMPANIES ON MY SHOW!!! I TAP OUT!!!!! ENOUGH!!!!”

Mathews has since tried to backpedal on his comments regarding Samoa Joe and WWE. However, fans aren’t letting him off the hook. When asked if he was called Joe a reject, Josh responded by saying “not even a tiny bit, Joe is a star.”

The weirdest part of the entire thing is that this isn’t the first time Mathews has gone after WWE. He even got into a twitter blowout with Jim Ross, a former mentor of his in WWE. At the end of the day, what makes this entire thing come full circle is that Mathews calls Samoa Joe a TNA made star yet Mathews is a WWE made guy. When this was brought up, he claimed he made himself. Yet Joe didn’t make himself?

Every time Josh Mathews has gone on some Twitter diatribe against WWE or a star/performer from the company he has had to backpedal and/or apologize over his moronic tweets. This might have been at the request of TNA, but regardless it had to be done. It’s like ever since he left WWE, where he claimed to be shackled by management, he has felt he could just go crazy on Twitter. Yet he still works for another company and makes them look bad when he gets in the news over stupid remarks.

Clearly TNA won’t fire Josh Mathews, but at the end of the day someone needs to shut him up on Twitter. Since leaving WWE, Mathews has been in the news over controversial social media comments 3 to 4 times. That is clearly not a good thing for Mathews or TNA.
