‘League Of Legends’ Trying To Fix Toxic Players, Introduces New Abuse-Banning System

League of Legends often gets a bad rap for being a harbor for toxic players. From death threats to “swatting” other players, this small section of the fanbase is constantly giving the game itself a bad name. Riot Games, the makers of League of Legends, is continuing its quest to identify toxic and abusive players and remove them from the game, if necessary.

Riot unveiled their new automated system targeting verbally abusive League of Legends players in the hopes of reforming them into better members of the community. According to Riot, the system aims at getting quick feedback from the offending player’s teammates and opponents and using that information to confront the accused with the evidence and mete out punishment fitting to the offense. This could mean as little as a temporary ban or a permanent ban from League of Legends.

“When negative behavior occurs, we know that the faster a player receives feedback, the better their chances of reforming. With that in mind, we’re building and iterating on a new instant feedback system that delivers actionable feedback and appropriate punishment to players that need it most. In the future, we expect instant feedback to take on rewards as well, but in step one we’re focused on reform-oriented feedback and punishment.”

The system has launched in the North American region and is being monitored by League’s “Player Behavior Team” to make sure the procedure is working properly. How the process works is pretty simple, actually. Players will report an abusive player to Riot, who will then validate the report to make sure it is a legitimate report and not someone trying to mess with the system. If the report is validated, Riot will review the actions and send both a response with their punishment and chat logs to the offending player. This is all meant to take place within fifteen minutes from the end of the match.

As of now there doesn’t seem to be appeal process detailed for those banned by the new system can fight the punishment, but according to the League of Legends developer, the punishment will be based on “community-driven behavior standards.” However, League of Legends players can expect Riot to unveil rewards for great in-game behavior as the new system matures.

Recently, the League of Legends developer released an album as a thanks to fans with music from the extremely popular game. The music is available for free on their website for download now.
