Assassin’s Creed III Wii U Controls Detailed, New Trailer Released

In addition to releasing on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Assassin’s Creed III will also be making its way to Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U console, and new details on how the game will utilize the Wii U’s tablet-like controller make it sound like a bit more than a standard port.

According to a report by NintenGen, via the latest issue of Nintendo Gamer, the Wii U’s tablet controller can double as a persistent on-screen map, similarly to titles on the Nintendo DS that utilize the dual screens. Updates to the Animus Database will also be shown on the controller, rather than on the screen, and there will also be some form of link to the Animus system using the controller, but details on that are unknown.

That’s not all the Wii U tablet will be used for, though. The controller can also be used to switch weapons on the fly, without the need of pulling up any sort of menu. The Wii U controller can also be used as an alternate view for Eagle Vision, with the Wii U controller’s built-in accelerometer being used to control the camera while in Eagle Vision.

It isn’t known whether or not Assassin’s Creed III will release on the Wii U as a launch title, or if it will ship at a later date. Hopefully we’ll hear more on that, as well as a Wii U release date, at E3 this June.

Until then, you can check out a new Assassin’s Creed III teaser showcasing the game’s new weapons below.
