Jane Fonda: ‘F*** You Fifties’, Discusses Plastic Surgery

Actress Jane Fonda apparently feels strongly about the joys of being a woman past her 50s.

In a recent interview with the Telegraph, the 77-year-old woman claimed that women are able to become feistier as they age – becoming the people that they really want to be in life.

The Grace and Frankie actress did not even hesitate to drop an F-bomb to help drive her point home.

“It’s called the f— you fifties. Once you are past 50, it’s like, why the hell not be the person who I really am? What do I have to lose? You can do all the things that you are not supposed to do as a woman, like tell the truth and get angry.”

Jane did not even hesitate to discuss her plastic surgery and why she honestly felt the need to have it done in the first place.

“I am brave in a lot of ways, but not that way. I need to work, so I had plastic surgery. It’s not like it’s too much, it’s not like you can’t see my wrinkles, right? But I think it probably bought me a decade of work.”

Even though she admitted that she was not brave enough to stay away from plastic surgery, Jane Fonda showed her respect to the women in Hollywood that were – such as her friend, Vanessa Redgrave.

Fonda also accused Hollywood of ageism, claiming that it is difficult for her to find work even with her impressive resume – which is why she tries to stay young.

“Ageism is alive and well. It is OK for men to get older, because men become more desirable by being powerful. With women, it’s all about how we look. Men are very visual, they want young women. So, for us, it’s all about trying to stay young.”

Fonda further expressed her excitement about her new television series, Grace and Frankie starring her 9 to 5 co-star Lily Tomlin. She wanted to do a television show which showcased the realities of being an older woman. Pairing her up alongside 75-year-old Lily Tomlin in leading roles allowed her to do just that.

The two-time Oscar winner has enjoyed a blossoming career in Hollywood for more than five decades – a career that has led to numerous awards and accolades, including two Oscars and a lifetime achievement award.

Over the years, Jane Fonda has never been known for biting her tongue when it comes to expressing her strong beliefs and passions.
