UFC 187: Johnson Vs. Cormier Pay-Per-View Results — Updated LIVE!

Today, May 23, 2015 at 10 p.m., UFC will present UFC 187: Johnson vs. Cormier, only through pay-per-view. The event will take place in the MGM Grand Arena located in Las Vegas, Nevada. For those who are unable to attend the fight live, the Inquisitr reported earlier how UFC fans can watch the pay-per-view.

Fortunately, those who cannot afford the pay-per-view are given some luxuries though they are not free. First, the Early Preliminary Card can be viewed through the UFC Fight Pass while the main Preliminary Card can be viewed through Fox Sports 1. However, the main card is what makes UFC 187: Johnson vs. Cormier unique, as proven through the past reports leading up to this pay-per-view.

  • Jon Jones stripped of UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.
  • Daniel Cormier to replace Jon Jones. Johnson and Cormier to fight for vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.
  • Khabib Nurmagomedov injured. John Makdessi to take his place in fight against Donald Cerrone in UFC Lightweight Championship eliminator round.

As shown from the above reports, the Johnson vs. Cormier fight will decide who will be the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion after Jon Jones was stripped of it due to his hit-and-run. However, that is just one of two championship matches on the main card. Chris Weidman will fight Vitor Belfort for the UFC Middleweight Championship too.

Nevertheless, the official fight card results will be shown below as they become available. This is a live-updating article so for those who are unable to watch the pay-per-view, you can use this article as a means to find out the latest results. Please note that due to online limitations, only the overall result shall be posted live with a fight synopsis detailed after the pay-per-view. As for the preliminary matches, only the results shall be reported.

Main Card (Pay-Per-View – 10 p.m. EST/7 p.m. PST)

Joseph Benavidez vs. John Moraga – Benavidez (USA) is 21-4-0 and Moraga (USA) is 16-3-0. They are fighting in the Flyweight Division.

  • SYNOPSIS: Probably the most straight-forward fight among the Main Card. Could have gone both ways.
  • RESULTS: Benavidez defeats Moraga via Decision.

Travis “Hapa” Browne vs. Andrei “Pit Bull” Arlovski – Browne (USA) is 17-2-1 and Arlovski (Russia) is 23-10-0. They are fighting in the Heavyweight Division.

  • SYNOPSIS: To most people, probably the Fight of the Night. Both fighters were like bulls, throwing hay makers. Arlovski knocked down Browne numerous times but Browne was able to get in one good knockdown. In the end, Browne couldn’t handle all the hard punches.
  • RESULT: Arlovski defeats Browne via KO/TKO in the 1st Round

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone vs. “The Bull” John Makdessi – Cerrone (USA) is 27-6-0 and Makdessi (Canada) is 12-3-0. They are fighting in the Lightweight Division.

  • SYNOPSIS: The most unique finish for a match this Main Card. Apparently, Makdessi gave up with the “Time Out” gesture. It was recognized as a KO/TKO. This match probably would have been more entertaining if Khabib Nurmagomedov did not injure himself.
  • RESULT: Cerrone defeats Makdessi via KO/TKO in the 2nd Round.

“The All-American” Chris Weidman vs. “The Phenom” Vitor Belfort (Middleweight Title Fight) – Weidman (USA) is undefeated at 12-0-0 and the defending champion and Belfort (Brazil) is 24-10-0. They are fighting in the Middleweight Division for the UFC Middleweight Championship.

  • SYNOPSIS: Evident that Belfort wasn’t going to win if he kept fighting hand-to-hand with Weidman. Quick work done which resulted in a KO/TKO win for Weidman in the 1st round.
  • RESULT: Weidman defeats Belfort via KO/TKO in the 1st Round.

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson vs. Daniel “DC” Cormier (Light Heavyweight Title Fight) – Johnson (USA) is 19-4-0 and Cormier (USA) is 15-1-0. They are fighting in the Light Heavyweight Division for the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.

  • SYNOPSIS: Biggest surprise of the night. Cormier quickly adjusted to his bread-and-butter of wrestling after taking a major knockdown by Johnson. Cormier, being a former Olympian in wrestling, was better on the ground in which he was able to lock in a chokehold on Johnson for the submission victory. What is surprising is the fact Cormier is ranked number three and Johnson is ranked number one… and Cormier is now the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.
  • RESULT: Cormier defeats Johnson via Submission.
