11-Year-Old College Graduate With 4.0 GPA Says, ‘It’s No Big Deal’

Eleven-year-old Tanishq Abraham graduated from American River College in Sacramento, California, last Wednesday. What is unique about this situation is that most 11-year-olds are still in elementary school. Not only did Tanishq graduate from college at 11, but he also graduated with three associate degrees and a 4.0 GPA. And he did it all in just one year after graduating from high school at age 10, according to People.

“This isn’t much of a big deal to me.”

American River College officials say Tanishq is their youngest graduate this year, and he may be the youngest graduate in the school’s 60-year history. His fellow classmates were intimidated by him in their classes, but they were still happy to have a kid in the class with them.

The Los Angeles Times reported that one year after graduating from high school at age 10, Tanishq is graduating from college at age 11 with three degrees. Tanishq received a degree in math, science, and foreign language studies. He accomplished this by taking college courses while in high school.

The youngster says his accomplishments are the results of pure passion for learning.

“I like to learn. So I just followed my passion of learning, and that’s how I ended up here.”

At 11, Tanishq already has a long list of accomplishments and honors. Last year, he gained national recognition and earned attention from President Barack Obama, who sent him a congratulatory letter for being one of the youngest people to graduate from high school. He also received congratulatory messages from California officials.

At age 4, Tanishq became one of the youngest members of Mensa, the prominent high IQ society. At age 7, he became home-schooled because he was bored in regular school with the studies and with students his own age.

While meeting his high school requirements, Tanishq was also enrolled in college courses. He completed 42 credits upon graduating from high school.

Tanishq’s mother, Taji Abraham, said her son has always been ahead of the class.

“Even in kindergarten he was pretty ahead, a few years ahead and then it just went from there.”

Tanishq said he would like to go to Stanford to get his bachelor’s degree. Eventually, he wants to become a Nobel Prize-winning doctor and medical researcher, then a United States president.

Do you know someone like Tanishq who has excelled at something at such an early age? How old were you when you graduated from college?
