TSA Agents Hospitalized After Bag Emits Noxious Odor

TSA agents working at Logan International Airport were hospitalized on Monday morning when a noxious odor left a number of workers in feeling sick.

State police later discovered that the bag was carrying a common household chemical that is typically used to repel mice inside the home.

According to the official police statement the couple placed “camphor” in their bags “to ward off mice” as they traveled overseas.

After the chemical was discovered the room was aired out and the couple were allowed to continue their overseas trip without any known consequence. The couple were even allowed to carry their bags onto the plane once they had been properly cleared of all noxious odor.

As for the Transportation Safety Administration workers, fifteen of them complained of headaches along with throat and eye irritation after the bag was opened in Terminal A.

Of those fifteen workers four asked to be taken to the local hospital for evaluation where they were listed by Massachuesetts General Hospital doctors as “in good condition.” No passengers traveling through Logan International Airport were affected by the noxious odor.

While everyone was okay the situation did trigger the help of a bomb-sniffing dog, the Massport Fire Department, various TSA workers and state troopers.

On the one hand it was an unfortunate incident at Logan International Airport, on the other hand it shows travelers in the area that the airport is able to quickly deal with any situation that may pop up at the facility during a typical day of travel.
