Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around the World is sweeping America, leaving millions in tears. For those who haven’t been touched by this heartwarming story, it all starts with 5-year-old leukemia patient Miles Scott and the city of San Francisco. Miles made his wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation and that wish was that he could be a superhero for a day. The people of San Francisco united to help Miles’ dream come true and, for one day, Miles was able to become Batkid.

Batkid’s story was only just the beginning. Thanks to social media, the story of Batkid was circulated throughout the world and everyone was eager to see Batkid fight the bad guys and save “Gotham” from evildoers. Along the way, a Batkid documentary was put into the works and with that, America is once again suffering from Bat Fever.

“One of his doctors told us that with this disease, they just become, like, a fighter,” Miles’ father said, trying to make sense of the strong connection the younger Scott feels to Batman. “They fight for life. I think he sees the good vs. evil battle in superheroes.”

As of November, Miles’ leukemia was in remission, so maybe Batkid has done more good than even Miles Scott realized.

The Batkid saga doesn’t end here. On the contrary, it seems to be picking up steam and Batkid has inspired actress/producer Julia Roberts to bring Batkid back in a full-length feature film. Variety reported that Ms. Roberts, alongside Red Om Films partners Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill, will produce the feature Batkid film adaptation of the worldwide event that drew in almost two billion participants.

Dana Nachman, who directed the documentary entitled Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around the World, will executive-produce the Julia Roberts feature.

“It’s thrilling to me that Ms. Roberts and her team watched our film and were so moved by it that they want to dedicate their time and creative capital to make sure the widest audience possible will know and love Miles’ story and the spirit of this intimate special event that went global, as much as we do.”

Ms. Roberts will also star in the film, but there is no word yet as to whom Julia might play in the Batkid adaptation. Sources are guessing that Ms. Roberts will most likely play Patricia Wilson, the director of the San Francisco Make-A-Wish chapter responsible for making Miles’ Batkid fantasy a reality.
