Apple iPhone Fans Cheer Over Alleged Failure of Samsung Galaxy S6

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are allegedly failures. Forbes broke the news on what they consider a disappointment for Samsung.

“70 million. Earlier this year that was the number of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones Samsung claimed it would sell in 2015. Samsung also claimed to have taken 20M pre-orders prior to both phones’ release. Sadly one month on the reality looks disastrously different.”

Forbes cites other reports that say it has taken a month for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge to reach 10 million. The magazine has tried to get a response from Samsung, who has refused to comment. The silence has led to even more speculation.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and, especially, the Galaxy S6 Edge, have received wonderful reviews. Engadget described both phones as Samsung’s best in years.

“As if to silence the doubters, Samsung has not one, but two flagships on offer — the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge — and they’re surrounded by questions. Can they restore Samsung to its former glory? Has the company figured out how to build a truly interesting smartphone again?”

Engadget goes on to concede that while it is too early to say that Samsung could restore its former glory, they concede that they definitely made an interesting and relevant smartphone again. But early sales haven’t been as successful as early reviews and that has some iPhone fans actually celebrating Samsung’ s demise. Commenter “leo p” was particularly harsh when commenting under the Forbes article.

“Samsung made the mistake of thinking it had the image of the iphone. It does NOT. Giving less (no micro SD card option, no removable battery) and asking for more, then getting smacked in the face with these disastrous sales was more then expected.”

iPhone fans celebrated on Twitter as well.

There is actually no confirmation that Samsung’s sales are a “disaster.” While it’s true that Samsung remaining silent on sales isn’t helping, the Internet echo chamber is in full-force, repeating stories about Samsung from other websites without doing any fact checking whatsoever. It’s also important to note that Samsung’s Galaxy S6 phones have only been available for one month. Unlike the previous two Galaxy S smartphones, the S6 series has been well-received and might have legs enough to sell well throughout the rest of the year.

The Apple vs. Samsung mentality in the smartphone world has become tiring; both companies have made innovative products and should equally be celebrated. Anybody who gives up on the Galaxy S6 may be in for a surprise when actual sales numbers are revealed at the end of 2015.
