WWE News: New Wrestler, Mikaze, Injured At NXT Tapings

Things got a bit scary last night during NXT’s television tapings at Full Sail University. A new wrestler, who was making his debut for NXT, suffered an injury that caused a match to be stopped for several minutes.

The injured wrestler was Mikaze (Sarath Ton). He also uses the nickname “The American Sasuke.” Mikaze was wrestling in a tag team match alongside Jason Jordan. The team was taking on NXT veterans the Vaudevillians, and the injury to Mikaze reportedly took place when Aiden English received a hot tag and executed a boot to Mikaze’s head after rebounding off the ropes.

A reader of TopRopePress.com was in attendance at the tapings and sent in an eyewitness account of what went down.

“The wrestler who was injured at the tapings was Sasha Banks’ boyfriend, who was debuting. He got legit injured when Aiden English came off the ropes with a boot to the side of his head. Aiden picked him up and he was limp. They tried their double team moves on him, but the ref called them off and stopped the match. He lay there for about five minutes before finally getting up on his own. The crowd was quiet during most of this.”

Mikaze is also well known as the fiance of NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks.

Lastly, though Mikaze was making his in-ring debut for the company, he was recently hired to take over as WWE’s head seamstress. This took place after the retirement of longtime WWE seamstress Sandra Gray. Viewers of the television show Total Divas are very familiar with Gray, as she has been featured on the show several times.

According to Cagematch.net, Mikaze began his wrestling career in 2002. He’s a high flyer out of Springfield, Massachusetts, who has spent most of his career wrestling in the northeastern United States. Mikaze’s signature holds include the Shinobi Press and Split-Legged Moonsault.

While somewhat of an unknown on the national scene, Mikaze (who sometimes wrestles as Kid Mikaze) is well known on the independent circuit along the American east coast. He has twice been ranked in the Pro Wrestling Illustrated PWI 500 (2007 and 2010). As far as championships go, the biggest title Mikaze has held is the Chaotic Wrestling World Heavyweight Championship (2011).

There is no official word yet on the severity of Mikaze’s injury at last night’s WWE NXT tapings, but the Inquisitr will have more on the situation as it develops.
