‘Chicago P.D.’ Spoilers: Where Will Lindsay Be When Season 3 Begins?

Chicago P.D. Season 2 wasn’t an easy one for Erin Lindsay, from a new job that didn’t last long at all to an attempt at being more than friends with Halstead until it became clear it couldn’t work with their job to losing Nadia to a serial killer in the big crossover event with Chicago Fire and Law & Order: SVU. Ever since Nadia’s death, Lindsay has been spiraling and falling into old bad habits, and it all led to her making a shocking decision.

In the Chicago P.D. Season 2 finale, which Broadway World reported was its most-watched telecast since the February 25 episode, other than the crossover event, Voight sent Lindsay home after she told him she’d fail a drug test, and at the end of the episode, he found her at her mother’s bar.

“I was born into bad news, and I can’t seem to get away from it,” she told him, and it’s those around her who get hurt.

According to Bunny, it’s a good idea for him to give her daughter some space to figure things out for herself. When Voight tried to get Lindsay to come with him, she refused.

“I’ve talked to you as a friend, as a father, now I’m talking to you as your boss,” he tried. “Get off the stool. Let’s go to work.”

Instead, Lindsay quit and gave him her badge. Watch that scene again below.

Lindsay left Intelligence earlier in Chicago P.D. Season 2 to join a federal task force, but that didn’t last long. However, as Sophia Bush told the Hollywood Reporter, that was supposed to last longer than it did – for eight episodes.

“The way it changed the chemistry of the show – everyone hated it. They pulled the plug on it really quickly.”

This isn’t the same. Whereas leaving the task force was about not liking how it was run and what the job was, leaving Intelligence this time is about how she’s coping with Nadia’s death, and Bush hopes that when Chicago P.D. Season 3 begins, everything’s not just back to how it was before.

“This is getting to the very core of who she is as a person and it slays her vulnerability open in a way that I don’t think she knows how to cope with. I’m hoping at least that that’s not something that when we come back in season three, everything’s OK. I think she’s going to have a lot to deal with when the next season of the show picks up and we’ll have to figure out how to tap back into her strengths.”

While it still hasn’t been decided how long after the finale the Season 3 premiere will pick up, Bush has admitted that she’d like it to only be a day to see where Lindsay is, and she wants it to be a few episodes into the season before she wants to return to the job.

“As much as I agreed that she would make a very immediate, cutthroat decision about the wrong working environment at the task force, I would like for this to not wrap itself up so quickly,” the actress explained.

Chicago P.D. returns for its third season this fall Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on NBC.
