Honey Boo Boo: From ‘Toddlers & Tiaras’ Go-Go Juice To ‘Doctors’ Weight War, Has TV Exploited Honey Boo Boo? [Video]

Honey Boo Boo became a reality TV star even before she could read. Primping and posing on Toddlers and Tiaras, the little girl provided entertainment to her fans. Her popularity soared, and TLC promptly gave Honey Boo Boo and her family their very own show, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

Talk shows adored the little girl, and she showed off her charm for Dr. Drew and Anderson Cooper. With Mama June as her “momager,” Honey Boo Boo discussed the niceties of helpful elements for those child beauty pageants such as Go-Go Juice, a concoction made of Red Bull and Mountain Dew, reported the New York Daily News.

Mama June explained that by mixing Mountain Dew and Red Bull and giving it to her daughter prior to her display on stage, the would-be tiny beauty queen appeared more energetic.

“My special juice is going to help me win,” boasted Alana. “My Go-Go Juice is kicking in right now.”

Mama June defended the practice, noting that it was reversed for pageants.

“There are normal people who give their kids this. Why is it such a big issue with us pageant moms that do it all weekend to keep our kids energized and awake? There are far worse things. I could be giving her alcohol.”

Although the large amounts of sugar are associated with childhood obesity, June said at the time she had no concern that it might impact Honey Boo Boo’s well-being.

“She’s not skinny but, whether skinny or fat, I am still going to love my children regardless,” she added. “I could care less if they get up to 1,000 pounds; I am still going to love them.”

On Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, June also made it clear that she felt her family’s eating habits were just fine. She appeared on Wendy William’s talk show to stir up her famous “sketti,” a mixture of butter, ketchup, and pasta, reported the Huffington Post.

“It’s an old family recipe,” June revealed on an episode.

It involves combining large amounts of butter with ketchup into a plastic container, melting it in the microwave, and then pouring it over spaghetti noodles.

But after the show was cancelled, photos showing Honey Boo Boo as overweight were displayed on The Doctors TV show, which subsequently invited both the 9-year-old child and her mother to what was described as a health intervention, as the Inquisitr reported.

The physicians made a point of saying that Honey Boo Boo was in danger of conditions such as diabetes and hypertension because of her weight, implying that Mama June had exploited her daughter for entertainment.

But now Mama June is fighting back with a lengthy post contending that she and her daughter are using a personal fitness trainer and succeeding at weight loss, in contrast to what she says was The Doctors’ ineffective methods, reported MSN.

“Just by eating smaller portions and walking,” said June.

Thus far, Honey Boo Boo has lost eight pounds, while June revealed that she lost 45 pounds.
