Luck Series Finale Comes Just Two Months After Premiere [Video]

HBO had high hopes for the horse racing series “Luck.” They had an Oscar winning actor in Dustin Hoffman, an Oscar nominated director in Michael Mann, and a supporting cast that included Nick Nolte and Dennis Farina. But luck has run out for the new show as HBO will air the “Luck” series finale tonight, just two months after the show made its debut.

HBO isn’t canceling the show because of low ratings or lack of interest. The network made the decision to cancel the show after three horses died on set. HBO said that despite the fact that they were taking every safety precaution they couldn’t guarantee the safety of the horses.

The network announced that they would be canceling the show earlier this month. HBO said in a statement:

“While we maintained the highest safety standards possible, accidents unfortunately happen and it is impossible to guarantee they won’t in the future. Accordingly, we have reached this difficult decision.”

Tonight’s episode, which was supposed to be the season finale but is now the series finale, will take place on Derby Day at Santa Anita. HBO describes the finale episode of the series, saying:

“Gus takes extraordinary precautions to protect his boss. As Jerry maps out a strategy for another big score, Escalante preps his race-day horses while keeping an anxious ear out for news about Jo, who’s still in the hospital. Renzo welcomes his mother to town. Mon Gateau runs his biggest race yet. Later, Ace and Gus join an expectant crowd for the epic showdown between the two stars of Santa Anita, Ace and Gus’ Pint of Plain and Walter’s Gettin’Up Morning.”

Here’s a preview for the “Luck” series finale.
