British Meat Feast: American-Style Diner Serves 9,000-Calorie Platter Across The Pond

Traditionally, when it comes to food, the British have about the same reputation for it as they do for their teeth, which is generally considered pretty poor.

However, it seems even the British are wising up to the fact that good food tastes good, and then when it comes to good food and large portions, Americans know where it’s at.

An American-style diner in York, UK called Huckleberry’s American Diner now serves a dish fit for even the rawest Man vs. Food challenger, with a selection of 4 different meats and a belt-busting 9,000 calories.

According to a co-owner of the restaurant, Jon Rowlands, the gut-busting dish contains a remarkable 2 pounds of pulled turkey in white gravy, 2 pounds of garlic pulled pork, 2 pounds of sticky bourbon beef, and 2 pounds of slow cooked beef brisket topped with smoked cheese.

The dish, which costs $75, has only been attempted by a handful of brave people, but so far, no one has been able to finish the stack of meat and sides.

As Rowlands explained to reporters, “At 9000 calories and over a stone in weight, this is certainly one of the biggest challenges I’ve seen yet. I spend a lot of time researching challenges and I personally haven’t seen a meat feast at this weight. It’s big, in fact it’s really big, but in our opinion, with an hour to finish, we think it’s doable.”

Rowlands added that the meat is served in sauce to make it more succulent, saying, “It’s mainly protein, in the form of a selection of pulled meats and ribs, not too dry as they are in sauces, a bucket of mashed potato to break up the mountain of meat. We have a number of regular challengers who won’t be able to wait to get their mouths round this challenge and try and get on our new Food Gods wall of fame. This is bigger than anything we have done before, and let me tell you, we have done some awesome challenges.”

The meal challenge is called the “Ambrosia,” as Rowlands explained, “The literal translation of ambrosia is the food of the Gods, so competitors can expect it to be an almighty challenge. In the next few weeks, we’ve got some competitive eaters lining up to attempt the challenge, so its difficulty will really be put to the test. There’s probably more in that bucket than I could eat in a week – it’s truly a meat lover’s paradise.”
