Emily Beazley Cancer Fight Has Ended: Brave 12-Year-Old Passes Away Due To Cancer

Emily Beazley’s cancer battle is now over. She has gone home.

The Chicago Sun Times is reporting that Beazley, 12, lost her battle with Stage 3 T-Cell lymphoblastic non-Hodgkin lymphoma. She had been suffering from the disease since April 2011. Emily’s mother, Nadia, wrote on her Facebook page, “My beautiful Emily got to use her angel wings. She fought hard to the end. Her last gift to me was passing peacefully.”

Beazley’s support group, affectionately named “Emily’s Entourage,” fought for and received the right to change the name of Beazley’s family street from 108th and Homan Avenue to Emily Beazley Street. The city of Chicago also recently honored Beazley by lighting up the night sky in purple and green, Beazley’s two favorite colors.

Beazley created a close friendship with Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura. Beazley threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Ventura at a White Sox game on May 10 at U.S. Cellular Field. Beazley and Ventura both appeared in a 2011 cameo appearance at the Goodman Theatre.

“It’s sad. It breaks your heart,” Ventura said before the Sox played the Cleveland Indians Tuesday at U.S. Cellular Field. “For me being a parent. … with her passing she was a tough kid going through something unimaginable. Her attitude, being upbeat the way she was through it all, you learn things. You get a perspective on what is important. Her and the family and everything the community did for her was incredible. She jammed a lot in in 12 years, especially the last three to four. Your heart breaks. It’s incredibly sad.”

According to the Chicago Tribune, Beazley had undergone chemotherapy, radiation, and even a stem cell transplant operation, with her sister Olivia donating the stem cells. Each time, it looked like Beazley’s cancer was in remission. Each time, however, Beazley’s cancer came back more aggressive than before.

As she was enduring all of these procedures, Beazley was constantly thinking of others. After the stem cell operation, she asked to be wheeled to her sister’s recovery room so Beazley could hold Olivia’s hand while Olivia slept.

Beazley once cupped her mother Nadia’s face in her hands and drew her closer to tell her that when she dies, she would miss her mother the most.

Beazley had one wish, and that was to meet Taylor Swift in person when Swift would be in Chicago in June for her concert. At least, Beazley got to speak with Swift on the phone last month.

The brave young girl will be laid to rest soon, with details forthcoming. After such a public fight for life, the family, father Ed, mother Nadia, and sister Olivia, have asked for privacy at this time while they mourn Beazley’s death.
