‘Heroes Of The Storm,’ Blizzard’s MOBA Featuring ‘Warcraft,’ ‘Diablo’ Characters, Now In Open Beta

Blizzard Entertainment announced the release of Heroes of the Storm last month with a firm open beta date set, as well. With the game officially launching on June 2, players have a good two-week period to play the game while it is in open beta. The open beta has formally started, and anyone who wishes to play the multiplayer online battle arena can download it for free and get started today.

Anyone interested in a MOBA featuring Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft should definitely download Heroes of the Storm. Players can use iconic heroes and villains like Thrall from games like World of Warcraft, or Diablo himself from the Diablo franchise. Lesser known Blizzard entities are also included, like the Lost Vikings, with more likely to be released, while StarCraft enthusiasts can master heroes like Nova and Tychus.

Heroes of the Storm will launch with more than 30 playable Heroes, over 130 Skins, 14 steadfast mounts, and 7 dynamic Battlegrounds, each with unique challenges to overcome—and even more Heroes, Skins, Mounts, and Battlegrounds are on the way!”

New players should also note that there will be no more wipes during the open beta. Anything a player accomplishes or purchases now through launch will persist, and no progress will be lost when the game officially releases. This is important information for those that were included in the closed beta, as well. Their data will also remain unchanged.

As Gamespot points out, Heroes of the Storm is a little different from other MOBAs like League of Legends and DOTA 2. Matches are typically much shorter, averaging around 15-25 minutes, rather than 30-45 minutes in other titles. Not to mention, players share experience with each other rather than it being given to each player individually. The game is also a little easier to pick up, while still being a challenge to master.

Heroes of the Storm can also be played solo or against bots in a private setting. When the Inquisitr reported on the open beta and release date for Heroes of the Storm, the fact that players can use practice matches to level up alone was mentioned. This is still true in Heroes of the Storm, only it works a little better now. Although practice mode, now called “Training,” still exists, players can now opt to use the “Versus AI” mode with a party of their choosing. This mode lets a player battle against bots with bots on their team for a completely solo or controlled party environment. The “Versus AI” mode does reward gold for wins, levels up both characters and accounts, while progressing daily progress.
