Woman Who Lied About Having Incurable Cancer To Get Attention And Donation Money Gives Confessional Interview On ‘Dr. Phil’

A California woman who lied about having incurable cancer to get attention and donation money gave a confessional interview on the Dr. Phil Show, Mirror reports.

For 14 months, Meaghan Hudson, 25, lied to her close friends and family about having terminal cancer. She went to the extreme trying to convince them that her days on Earth were numbered, including shaving her head, posting photos of herself at doctors’ offices on social media, and posting Facebook statuses about how ill she felt that day.

Out of support, a few of her closest friends had shaved their heads and even got permanent tattoos on their wrists in her honor.

Hundreds of social media users had learned of Hudson’s story and wanted to help. Therefore Hudson’s stepmother, Margaret, set up a GOFUNDME page for her in which she accumulated $5,000 from 83 people.

The lies came to an abrupt end when people began to question whether she had cancer or not because some things didn’t quite add up – some even went to the police with their concerns. That’s when Hudson decided to confess.

She was later arrested for lying about having cancer and taking donations from people.

Now, the cancer faker gives a confessional interview on the Dr. Phil Show, ready to confront the woman she lied to for over a year.

“I had just recently lost four different, very close people in my family in the past seven months,” Hudson tells Dr. Phil.

“My paternal grandfather, my stepmother’s father, another very, very close grandfather figure and my great grandmother.”

“I think, one day, I was in a very dark place and I didn’t feel like I had that unconditional love or support, and I wanted it.”

“There’s a point at which you said, ‘This is working. It’s getting me what I want,'” Dr Phil said to her.

“I cannot ever think of a time I thought those things,” Hudson replied. “But, yes. It was obvious that it was having the effect of those things that I had always wanted.”

“I didn’t ever think in my head, ‘Oh, this is really working.’ It was more of, this is something that I lied about, and I didn’t know how to stop.”

It was also revealed that Hudson had lied to her family about graduating from San Diego State University and received a nursing degree, according to Daily Mail.

After learning that her stepdaughter lied about having cancer, she wrote an apology note on the GOFUNDME page, which stated as follows.

“We have recently learned that Meaghan does not have cancer.”

“She has deceived her family and friends into believing she has been suffering from multiple myeloma for over a year now.”

“She is not sick, even despite her ongoing claims that she does have some type of illness that has simply not been diagnosed.”

“We learned of this very hurtful news from the Chula Vista Police Department this past week.”

“After speaking to several of her close friends, she has told many lies about many other big and small things,” the note continued.

“She called her father on Wednesday night to confess to us personally and claims to be ready to make positive changes in her life.”

“I know that you have given your hard earned money out of sincere concern and support for Meaghan and our family. I can’t express to you how much I appreciate that and how very sorry I am that your generosity has been taken advantage of in this situation.”

“Sean and I want to return your money to you out of our own pockets, as she has spent the money long ago.”

“Again, I am so very sorry to have to send this news this way. I very much wish there wasn’t a need to communicate this to you at all.”

Hudson now faces criminal charges of theft by deception and grand theft.
