Girl Scouts Transgender Policy: Will The Latest GS Controversy Cause Memberships To Drop Even Lower?

The Girl Scouts transgender policy has provoked backlash against the organization once again. The “Meaning of Serving All Girls” website post defines a girl not by physical gender but by how the child is “recognized” by school, community, and family.

Critics of the Girl Scouts transgender policy have started a petition to promote the overturning of the new policy, the petition quickly accrued tens of thousands of signatures. The American Family Association launched the transgender Girl Scouts petition by urging the group to “stop this nonsense by rescinding this dangerous policy now!”

The “Meaning of Serving All Girls” post was written by Dr. Andrea Bastiani Archibald, who is identified as a “chief girl expert” on the website. The Girl Scouts blog post began by detailing the history of the group, which was founded in 1912.

“If a girl is recognized by her family, school and community as a girl and lives culturally as a girl, Girl Scouts is an organization that can serve her in a setting that is both emotionally and physically safe. Inclusion of transgender girls is handled at a council level on a case by case basis, with the welfare and best interests of all members as a top priority. As we face a complex and rapidly changing 21st century, our nation needs all girls to reach their full potential, which has been our focus for more than 103 years.”

“The Girl Scouts of America has lost its moral compass and needs your encouragement to rescind this new policy,” the American Family Association petition maintains.

“This means girls in the organization will be forced to recognize and accept transgenderism as a normal lifestyle. Boys in skirts, boys in make-up and boys in tents will become a part of the program. This change will put young innocent girls at risk. Adults are willing to experiment on our kids – both the boys who are confused and the girls who will wonder why a boy in a dress is in the bathroom with them.”

Concerned Women for America President Penny Nancy, president feels the Girl Scouts transgender policy will create a “multitude of problems.”

“They’re no longer Girl Scouts, they’re just Scouts. That’s fine if they want to rebrand,” Nancy said. “But it raises all kinds of complications and questions for parents, volunteer parents who are involved.”

In 2011, the Girl Scouts (GS) came under fire for publishing a booklet for middle school girls which directed them to utilized Media Matters as a primary source to “debunk lies and deceit.” As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the rumored ties between the Girl Scouts and Planned Parenthood is one of the reasons cited by those with alleged plans to split the group and form a new organization dedicated to the “traditional values” which once guided the program created by Juliette Gordon Low, according to critics of the direction the scouting organization has taken in recent years.

The Girl Scouts USA membership peaked with 3.8 million members in 2003, but the group has since experienced a 27 percent drop in memberships.
