Princess’ Bail Set At $3.1 Million, But Princess Cristina Has Prosecutors Trying To Help Her

Princess Cristina’s bail has been set at an amazing $3.1 million (2.7 million euros), but her lawyers are hoping to get the princess’ bail lowered to a more affordable amount. Cristina, the 49-year-old sister of King Felipe, was criminally charged after a probe into her husband Inaki Urdangarin was also charged with money laundering and fraud.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, Prince Harry’s crocodile wrestling expedition was listed as “top secret mission” by Australian authorities. Apparently, work is his mistress since Prince Harry claims he does not want a girlfriend.

The princess’ bail money is just the tip of the iceberg. She faces four years in prison and her husband may spend 19 years rotting away in a cell. The Associate Press explained the reason why the married couple was charged.

“Urdangarin is accused of using his Duke of Palma title to embezzle about 6 million euros in public contracts through a nonprofit foundation he and a business partner set up to channel money to other businesses, including Aizoon, a company he owned with Cristina.”

Both Princess Cristina and her husband have asserted that they are innocent of any crime. Even Prosecutor Pedro Horrach has long opposed the princess’ indictment, claiming that the court has is no evidence she committed any crime. It was Horrach who filed the petition before the Palma de Mallorca court in order to request that magistrate Jose Castro reduce the princess’ bail amount. Princess Cristina’s lawyers have echoed this request, saying that a sum of 450,000 euros would be more reasonable since that would be the amount she would pay if successfully convicted of the crimes.

The princess’ bail amount may be amazing, but Princess Cristina is also the first Spanish royal family member ordered to stand trial for any crime since the restoration of the monarchy in 1975. In order to cover the princess’ bail money, magistrate Castro has already received a list of assets covering the bail amount. Princess Cristina would be be blocked from selling these assets while awaiting trial, which is expected to begin at the end of 2015.
