‘Girls Generation’, KPop And Why ‘American Idol’s’ Han Hee Jun Teaming Up With Them Is Awesome [Video]

If you asked fans of Kpop (the name associated with pop music originating in Korea) who their favorite girl band was, most would exclaim “Girls Generation.” This Kpop sensation consists of nine girls, and their music is as sweet as cherry pie – even if the outfits in their video clips are not!

With the recent announcement that American Idol alum Han Hee Jun is teaming up with Girls Generation member Tiffany, it seems the world is finally catching up with just how awesome this music style really is.

First, let’s have a look at one of Girls Generation’s popular video clips, “I Got A Boy”:

Catchy tune isn’t it? “I’ve Got A Boy” is probably Girls Generation’s most well known song. While Girls Generation was made up of nine members, the band was pared back to eight members when Jessica Jung left the band recently, according to Venture Capitalist Post. As well as the core group, TaeTiSeo, is also associated with Girls Generation as it is made up of three members of the original group. The group leader, Taeyeon, is also a solo artist in her own right. As a result, Girls Generation has cornered the market on Kpop with its fusion of outrageous outfits, highly synthesized sound and syncronized dance routines.

Not only have Girls Generation got a hold on the Kpop market, recently, three of its members, Taeyeon, Tiffany and Seohyun also made a guest appearance on a new TV show, Producers, according to Kpop Stars.

But how does American Idol contestant Han Hee Jun come into the equation? Recently he tweeted the following to his fans:

“I’ll be releasing my first duet single in Korea in May 15th! Who am I singing with? Here’s a hint! She’s the member of Korean girl group ‘Girls’ Generation’! Are ya’ll excited?”

He then went on to host a Q&A with Tiffany on Facebook – a hint at the duet song title it seems with the music video for “Q&A” released on May 15.

Han Hee Jun was originally a contestant on Season 11 of American Idol, where he placed ninth overall in the competition. He then went on to bigger and better things, signing up with Korean label Polaris Entertainment and placing third in the Korean version of American Idol; K-pop Star: Season 3. This is probably how he managed to score a duet with Tiffany from Girls Generation.

Girls Generation is also known by their Korean name, So Nyeo Shi Dae, which is quite often shortened to SNSD.
