Simon Cowell Is Making A Beatles Movie Based On Incredible Graphic Novel, ‘The Fifth Beatle’

Simon Cowell is making a Beatles movie! Well, it had to happen sometime. Music production guru meet pop music icons! But this movie, titled The Fifth Beatle, isn’t so much about the fab four as it is about Brian Epstein, the actual fifth Beatle.

Epstein was the Beatles’ manager and the one person a lot of people think was responsible for the whole Beatles phenomenon. According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Beatles’ own Paul McCartney agrees.

“If anyone was the fifth Beatle, it was Brian.”

Excitement is building already for this movie version of Vivek Tiwary’s “exhilarating and unexpected” graphic novel (scroll down for video).

The Fifth Beatle takes a close look at the life of a man who had a lot of problems of his own, but who managed to overcome “seemingly insurmountable odds and personal demons” to turn four Liverpool musicians into a worldwide sensation who forever changed popular music.

Going right back to the earliest days when the Beatles were an unknown bunch of guys playing in trashy bars and dives, The Fifth Beatle focuses on Brian. Epstein’s story is mixed right in with the crazy trajectory of the fab four as they took the world by storm, so you’ll get plenty of the Beatles too.

The fifth Beatle was a man who was in the right place at the right time, although it probably never looked that way to him until the Beatles came into being. Brian Epstein was a poor Jewish kid from the wrong side of the tracks, in a tough town that had more than its share of anti-semitic fervor. He struggled with drugs and gambling, and to top it off, Epstein’s homosexual life meant he was on the wrong side of the law too. Homosexuality was still a felony under English law until 1967, the year Brian Epstein died of an accidental overdose.

Cowell decided it was time for the real fifth Beatle to receive his due in film.

“I have always been fascinated by Brian Epstein — and his story. He played a huge role in The Beatles’ incredible success — and, I believe, remains the most talented manager ever. Yet his story has never been fully told.”

The Fifth Beatle is definitely promising to be a fab film about the fab four (or five!), and to make the news even more exciting, we’ll get to hear all the songs we love. Cinema Blend reports that the producers have secured the rights to the Beatles’ original music.

Here’s a small taste of what’s to come in The Fifth Beatle film.

Some fans are so excited that they’re tweeting their own versions of iconic Beatles’ shots.
