How Taylor Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’ Video Sucker Punches Katy Perry Where It Hurts

Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” music video premiered at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards. Now, fans are wondering if the singer took a dig at Katy Perry in her highly-anticipated music video. There have been mixed opinions on what “Bad Blood” is really about.

“Bad Blood” shows Swift as Catastrophe getting revenge on Selena Gomez, who plays Arsyn. It was rumored that both the song and the music video would be about Katy Perry. Perry allegedly stole Swift’s backup dancers in the middle of her Red tour.

Contributor Kadeen Griffiths doesn’t believe that the “Bad Blood” video drops any hints about Katy Perry. She thinks that Taylor’s friends would not star in a music video that would blast the rival pop singer. Taylor herself has also said that she would no longer mention Katy Perry in her interviews or at any point in her career.

That hasn’t stopped others in the media from speculating that Selena Gomez’s character closely resembles the “Dark Horse” singer. An exclusive report in HollywoodLife claims that Gomez’s dark haired wig was inspired by none other Perry herself. An alleged source also told the gossip site that there were multiple Katy Perry disses in the “Bad Blood” music video.

Even contributor Marlow Stern of The Daily Beast believes that Taylor Swift wanted to create the music video to literally stick it to Katy Perry.

“Directed by Joseph Kahn, who helmed Swift’s recent “Blank Space” video as well as other out-there classics like Britney Spears’ “Toxic,” it’s a Frank Miller-tinged send-up of virtually every sci-fi film in recent memory, from The Matrix to The Hunger Games, that sees Swift and all her real-life friends band together Avengers-style to deliver a collective suck it to Perry.”

“Kahn’s symphony of dystopian destruction, bondage gear, and shade-throwing opens channeling The Matrix, with Swift, a.k.a. Catastrophe, and Selena Gomez, a.k.a. Arsyn, kicking the crap out of a group of faceless agents in an office—that is, until Arsyn (the Katy Perry character), double-crosses her pal, snatching her briefcase and kicking her out a glass window to her death.”

Maybe Taylor’s new music video isn’t about her beef with Katy. Maybe it’s something deeper than we thought. Since Taylor has embraced feminism and her female friendships, maybe she’s trying telling us something we didn’t know, such as famous women and power in Hollywood.

“But beneath the sleek action-movie video production values, Swift sends a rather chilling underlying message about power in Hollywood: In case you didn’t know it before, she truly has become of the most powerful women in show business. So you shouldn’t even bother to go up against her. Because you will lose.”

Taylor Swift wants everyone to know that she has the most money and the most friends right now. Taylor also has connections to a large list of random celebrities and models who will do her a favor. Even if that favor includes dressing up in a leather outfit and kicking each other’s butts.

Katy Perry and her fans should take it as a warning that Swift doesn’t take kindly to people who are out to ruin her. She won’t let it go either. Instead, Swift will form an army of fierce female friends who will back her up. “Bad Blood” shows us that Taylor Swift is no longer the curly haired girl who plays guitar. It also shows us that we should no longer mess with her because she has more power and more fame than any of us do.

So…Is “Bad Blood” really about Katy Perry or not?

That’s up to the general public to decide. For now, Taylor is staying mum on her feud with Katy. We may never know if Taylor and Katy’s feud is really about backup dancers or John Mayer. As for the dark-haired, arch enemy, she’s been staying quiet on social media for nearly a week. Only time will tell if Katy Perry takes offense to this music video…or not.
