Whole Foods Market Recalls Chocolate Chip Cookies: Allergy Alert for Undeclared Walnuts

Whole Foods Market in conjunction with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall yesterday of Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies because the cookies may contain undeclared walnuts.

Individuals with food allergies to walnuts are at risk for allergic reactions to the mislabeled Whole Foods Market Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies because an allergy or severe sensitivity to walnuts can cause serious or life-threatening allergic reactions. Allergic reactions to walnuts and other tree nuts including skin rash, shortness of breath, swelling of the mouth and throat, tingling of the lips and tongue, and anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that can be fatal if not treated immediately.

Consumers who purchased the Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies affected by the Whole Foods Market recall are warned not to eat the cookies.

This Whole Foods Market recall affects Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies sold at the stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. The cookies with the undeclared walnuts are sold in a small brown paper bag with a clear window and a chocolate chip cookie label on front of the packaging.

The sell-by date for the Whole Foods Market recall includes Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies dated between March 8, 2012 through March 28, 2012. The UPC for the affected cookies is 2-21485-20399-5. Both the sell-by date and the UPC are printed on the back label of the bag.

Only the Whole Foods Market Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies with these sell-by dates and UPC are affected by this recall.

No illnesses or other reactions to the recalled Whole Foods Market Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies have yet been reported. Anyone who eats the recalled Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies from Whole Foods Market and who suffers from an allergic reaction should seek medical assistance immediately.

Whole Foods Market initiated the recall on its Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies when a store Team Member noticed the labeling error on the packaging. Whole Foods Market is working with the FDA until the recall is complete.
