Star Wars: The Old Republic’s Upcoming ‘Legacy’ System Detailed

The leveling portion of Star Wars: The Old Republic‘s Legacy system has been available since the game launched back in December, but none of the perks were implemented.

That’s set to change with Star Wars: The Old Republic patch 1.2 and, as the patch nears closer to being released on the live servers, BioWare released a new video detailing some of the features introduced via the Legacy system in patch 1.2.

On the surface, the Legacy system looks something a roleplayer might use to flesh out their characters’ storylines, and have their characters storyline intertwine with that of their alts–you’re able to set up a family tree with all of your characters, regardless of whether they’re the same race or not.

That’s not all that the Legacy system has to offer, however. When you level up in the Legacy system, you’ll be able to unlock new abilities for your character that allow for, say, a Bounty Hunter to use Force Choke. BioWare made it sound in the video like these powers are more for fun than anything else, but it’s likely that you’ll get at least some utility out of these abilities.

Alt-aholics will get something out of the system as well, BioWare goes on to explain. For example, if you were to take a Zabrak to level 50, that race will be unlocked to play across all classes–and even the opposite faction. If for some reason you ever wanted to play a Chiss Jedi, you’ll now be able to.
