One Direction Shares Thoughts On Zayn Malik Departure

James Cordon recently got One Direction on his The Late Late Show, and the topic quickly got onto the question that many fans have been wondering: Just how did 1D react when Zayn Malik announced he was leaving the band? It turns out that they definitely were not happy.

It was the first interview the now-four-piece band has done since Malik decided to call it quits, upsetting One Direction fans around the country. This was also the first interview since the Twitter spat between Malik and Louis Tomlinson. It turns out that the two boys are back on “good terms.” The Daily Beast reported that the band member admitted he has “never been good at biting my tongue.”

One Direction admitted their feelings to Cordon during the interview. At first, like many fans, they were angry and surprised. It was like the initial stages of grief, but they soon came around to acceptance. They had known the general vibe that Zayn had been feeling, and it looks like they now accept and understand why he chose to go in a separate direction. They have spoke since, and Tomlinson admitted that it has been “resolved,” whatever that really means.

“I’ve never been very good at biting me tongue. I probably get it off me mum. It’s just one of those things. Twitter’s great for connecting with the fans. But also if you feel like saying something that you probably shouldn’t, it’s also good for that as well. Or bad, in this case. It’s all resolved, all good in the hood.”

Rolling Stone reported that Zayn chose to leave One Direction after five years in the band. He made the announcement in March, saying that he wanted to be a “normal 22-year-old” and “able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.” The news was shared on One Direction’s Facebook page.

Liam Payne went on to explain to Cordon that it was clear Zayn was going to leave at some point. There were aspects of the job that he did not like, and he just needed to follow his heart. The band wishes him well whatever he decides to do, but meanwhile the four-piece will continue as normal. Nobody is going to replace the Bradford singer, so it will continue being the four of them as they are now. Niall Horan confirmed that the rest of them love all aspects of their jobs, and they will continue to sing and perform for fans.

“The four of us love every part of it. The shows have been great, the tour, the fans deserve it, they’ve been absolutely fantastic to us,” Niall Horan explained.

At least there is some good news. It follows other good news from Stephen Hawking that in a universe somewhere out there, Zayn Malik is still a member of One Direction, and somewhere fans are even married to him. One Direction fans can certainly rejoice in all of that.
