World’s Smallest Puppy? Diminutive Dachshund Could Claim World Record

Lucy, a two and a half pound Yorkshire Terrier, is currently the Guinness record holder for the world’s smallest dog. But the three-year-old terrier could soon have some competition. Beyonce, a Dachshund and Chihuahua mix, is barebly bigger than an iPhone.

The diminutive pup is two weeks old but only weighs four ounces. Her owners are hoping that the dog will grow up to claim the world’s smallest dog record.

Yahoo reports that Beyonce came from a litter of five puppies. Her mother, Casey, was found pregnant and abandoned. Casey was set to be euthanized but The Grace Foundation, which takes in neglected animals, decided to give Casey a second chance.

But even with the help of The Grace Foundation, Beyonce almost didn’t make it. When Beyonce was born on March 8th she had no heartbeat. The vets had to give her tiny CPR in order to save her life. The dog is doing well now but still requires to be bottle fed every hour. The foundation says that Beyonce is “normal in every other way.”

The dog won’t be able to claim the title until it’s full grown, but The Grace Foundation only expects Beyoncé to grow to about 1 ½ pounds.
