Linsanity Marijuana Has Jeremy Lin’s Lawyers Riled Up [Video]

Buzzkill Alert!

Marijuana dispensaries around California were nailed with Cease and Desist letters from Jeremy Lin’s lawyers for pushing a brand of weed called “Linsanity OG” a lawyer for the New York Knicks star told The Huffington Post on Wednesday.

Pamela Deese of the Washington, D.C., firm Arent Fox said,

“Their enthusiasm for Jeremy Lin got ahead of their understanding of the law,”

Word of Linsanity OG hit the streets when rappers Rick Ross and Stalley tweeted in early March about Linsanity OG cannabis, providing photos.

They released the weed when Jeremy Lin had turned into a huge star amid a Knicks win streak largely due to him. Now that the Knicks seem to be on a tear with him playing well Lin is probably hoping to capitalize a little bit more on his name, not let someone do it with medical herb.

There is an estimated 1000 medical marijuana dispensaries around California but only 5 or 6 have taken to selling Linsanity weed. Lin’s lawyers have targeted all of them.

Deese also said they went after more than 24 entities who tried to file a trademark on the term “Linsanity”. Most have since apologized and withdrew their applications.

Deese said,

“You can’t file a trademark when there’s a clear connection to someone else’s name. In this case, Jeremy Lin has the right to his name and related names and marks, as well as his signature, voice and likeness. That’s all part of his intellectual property.”

Lin filed his own claim for Linsanity on Feb. 13, asserting his rights to sell merchandise from underwear to beverage sleeves with that mark.I wonder if he will try to sell his own weed?

Do you think Jeremy Lin is being a little bit uptight about a strain of Marijuana named after him?
