Michael Cairncross Beat This Mom Of Three With A Baseball Bat: His Sentence, Pathetic [Graphic Photos]

Michael Cairncross is just another in a long line of domestic violence perpetrators, who appear to be getting the wrong message from the justice system.

While this particular case happened in the U.K., there are plenty of examples in the U.S. where heinous crimes involving domestic abuse just don’t seem to be that big of a deal to judges.

In the case of Cairncross, he admits that he took a wooden baseball bat and laid into his ex, Amy Castle (pictured above) while she slept.

Not only that, but he did it while the mom’s three children were in the house and one of them was watching, according to the Daily Mail.

Castle thankfully survived and posted some horrific photos of the attack to her Facebook page in order to bring awareness to what she and so many other women go through.

Here are some of the photos.

For the damage he did to Castle’s body and the horrific circumstances in which he did it, one might expect an attempted murder charge and perhaps some serious jail time.

If so, one would be disappointed.

Michael Cairncross ended up getting a sentence of just 27 months in jail. That will make the 24-year-old 26 when he again tastes freedom, a reality that did not sit well with Facebook commenters.

“Two years is no way long enuf. Scumbag [sic],” wrote Serena Chester.

“This sentence is a joke,” writes Stacy Banner. “Two women a week are being murdered as a result of domestic violence. Amy was lucky.”

Most agreed that a man hitting a woman was “pathetic,” but some pointed out that there really shouldn’t be a gender distinction when it comes to domestic violence.

“I really don’t like the comments ‘a real man should never hit a woman,'” writes Gem Price. “Because nobody should hit anyone full stop. You’d be shocked to know how many woman hit their partners and it goes unreported. Works both ways, it’s not just women that need protecting from domestic violence.”

Gem is correct, according to the CDC. The organization notes that each year, around one in seven men are victims of domestic violence.

Either way, most believed that it was a problem that needed to be solved and that light sentences like the one for Michael Cairncross are no way to do it.

What do you think, readers? Is two years enough time for a person to reflect and rehabilitate from crimes such as this one? Sound off in the comments section.
