That Awkward Moment When The Honest Trailer Of ’50 Shades Of Grey’ Is Better Than The Actual Movie

Some book fans of E.L JamesFifty Shades of Grey watched the movie just so they could say they had seen it. These fans, while they loved the books, were not as impressed with the movie, finding it a visual “watching HBO with your parents” moment. Yet, what if someone like Screen Junkies did an honest trailer of Fifty Shades of Grey? Would it be just as awkward? Or would it be hilariously funny?

Well, let’s have a look shall we? Here’s a breakdown of the honest trailer for those of you who can’t watch the NSFW video clip below.

  • First we are reminded that Fifty Shades of Grey was originally fan fiction based on the teen vampire hit, Twilight (by author Stephenie Meyer and adapted to the big screen in a slightly less embarrassing way than Fifty Shades) — but did you know that E.L. James wrote a lot of it on her phone?
  • Next, we are brought back to HBO awkwardness by being reminded that while Twilight was a success for teenagers, mommies are what made Fifty Shades of Grey so hugely popular. Was mommy porn ever cool?
  • Screen Junkies then want to know which is more ridiculous — the teenage fantasy of dating a vampire or of being the gorgeous billionaire’s sex slave?
  • Christian Edward Cullen Grey is apparently the annoying aforementioned billionaire that runs a mysterious company that is, well, mysterious. He is also a stalker with incredibly great abs (and thus making the whole ‘stalker’ thing not so important, because, abs.)
  • Some unexpectedly sexy things you were not expecting in this honest trailer: emails, texting, contracts and a plethora of usually boring legal terms.
  • A list of quotes that thankfully — according to Screen Junkies — didn’t make it into the movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey — and one that did.

You can view the complete Screen Junkies honest trailer of E.L. James’ hit movie below, but just be warned it is NSFW (Not Safe For Work).

And if you want another person’s opinion on the honest trailer, you can check out Luis Rodriguez from Movie Pilot as he watches it. You can also check out Marlon Wayans spoof version of Fifty Shades of Grey here.

What do you think — is the honest trailer better than the Fifty Shades of Grey movie? Or are spoofs always better than the originals? Let us know by commenting below!
