WWE News: ‘Elimination Chamber’ Tag-Team Match Details Revealed

This past Monday night on RAW, it was revealed that WWE was adding a second pay-per-view event for this month, which would air exclusively on the WWE Network, and that event is the Elimination Chamber show, which was replaced by the WWE Fast Lane pay-per-view this past February.

After WWE announced that the Elimination Chamber event would be taking place on May 31, it was revealed that two matches would be taking place inside the Chamber. One for the vacant Intercontinental Championship, and one for the Tag-Team Titles. Surprisingly, for the first time ever, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship will not be defended inside the Chamber.

Apparently, the reason why the WWE World Heavyweight Championship won’t be defended inside the Chamber is because WWE doesn’t feel that there are enough contenders, and it’s possible that two of the four members of this Sunday’s WWE Payback main-event, likely Dean Ambrose and Randy Orton, could be in the Chamber match for the Intercontinental Championship.

So, just how will a tag-team match work inside the Chamber? How many teams will be in the match? Well, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has the answer to those questions, but he does note that the details haven’t been fully worked out yet.

“The details haven’t been fully worked out, but the idea we were told is that both wrestlers on each team would be put in the pod together and released at the same time, and it would be fought tornado style, in the sense everyone would be in the ring at the same time. We were also told that while traditionally there are six competitors in a Chamber match, they are debating whether to go with six teams, or a number less than six.”

If WWE decides to go with six teams inside the Chamber, that would add up to twelve different superstars being in the ring at the same time. Also, six teams is just about the amount of established tag-teams WWE has, as the participants would likely be Cesaro and Tyson Kidd, The New Day, Lucha Dragons, Erick Rowan, and Luke Harper, Prime Time Players, Los Matadores.

As for who will be the champs heading into the Chamber, well, that will be decided this coming Sunday night at WWE Payback, when The New Day defend the Tag-Team Titles against Tyson Kidd and Cesaro in a best two out of three falls match.
