‘DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow’ Trailer Released, Villain Revealed As Vandal Savage [Video]

Fans of DC Comic’s The Flash and Arrow television universe got an extra special treat Thursday with the announcement of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. An extended trailer was later released that also revealed the show’s primary villain, who is responsible for bringing heroes like White Canary, The Atom, Firestorm, and Hawkgirl together with bad guys Captain Cold and Heatwave.

Rumors of the basic premise for Legends of Tomorrow have been floating around. Today’s announcement confirmed the premise and the cast of heroes. It’s the new trailer that goes the extra step of putting a name to the show’s lead villain, Vandal Savage, and confirms certain aspects of the show and characters.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Legends of Tomorrow will star Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein/Firestorm), Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/The Atom), Arthur Darvill (Rip Hunter), Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory/Heat Wave), Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart/Captain Cold), and Ciara Renee (Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl), and Franz Drameh (Jay Jackson).

The setup is that “time-traveling rogue” Rip Hunter has come from the future to bring together this mish-mash of heroes and villains to “confront an unstoppable threat — one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. That “unstoppable threat” is Vandal Savage. For those unfamiliar with the character, he was originally a Cro-Magnon caveman before an encounter with a meteorite turned him into an immortal conqueror. He’s assembled an “unstoppable army” that, of course, can only be stopped by the team of heroes. The Legends of Tomorrow trailer reveals that both Arrow and The Flash are instrumental to the team forming, and both heroes will guest star. To what degree is unknown, but both shows have embraced the crossover concept over the past season.

The trailer also reveals that this version of Hawkgirl is indeed the same Kendra from the DC Comics who gained her power from a past life. Meanwhile, the question over if and when Ray Palmer’s Atom will ever shrink in size is answered. It will indeed happen at some point during the season.

If nothing else, the Legends of Tomorrow trailer shows DC Comics and the CW’s willingness to embrace the more outlandish aspects of the comic universe and bring it to TV viewers. Arrow and The Flash have gradually been introducing the more fantastical elements, but this show may go even further when it debuts as a mid-season replacement in early 2016.
